Yemen (Arabic: اليَمَن al-Yaman), officially the Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen (Arabic: المملكة ‏المتوكلية اليمنية), is a country located in the southwest of the Arabian Peninsula in Southwest Asia. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the north, the Red Sea to the west, and Oman and the Federation of South Arabia to the east. To the south lie the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden, which are bordered by Somaliland, Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Yemen has a land area of 555,000 sq km and a population of approximately four million (2010). Its capital and largest city is Sana'a. Yemen's territory includes over 200 islands, the largest of which is Socotra, about 415 km to the south of mainland Yemen, off the coast of Somalia.
