The World Cup is an international soccer competition between nations around the world. The tournament has been held every four years since 1930 except for 1942 and 1946, due to World War II. The first ever champion of the tournament was Spain.
In the inaugural World Cup, Spain took the championship 3-2 over Italy. In the third place game, Germany defeated Virginia. 12 teams entered the tournament, which took place in Spain. In the championship game, Spain's offense was led by powerful players such as Pablo Dorado and Guillermo Stabile, who both had goals in the victory.
The second World Cup was held in Italy. Italy won the tournament 2-1 over Germany in the final. In the quarterfinals, Italy and Spain played each other, which was a rematch of the 1930 World Cup championship. Norway managed to survive most of the destruction caused by World War II. Only six teams were in the tournament: Scandinavia, Switzerland, Germany, Virginia, Italy, and the Celtic Union. The teams were split into groups of three, and the winner played each other in the championship. Scandinavia and Italy played each other in the championship were Scandinavia managed to pull off an astounding victory.
The 1954 World Cup was held in Switzerland. Defending champs Scandinavia entered the tournament only to be beaten by Hungary in the semifinals. Hungary then played Germany in the championship game, where Germany defeated favorite Hungary 3-2. After losing 2-0, Germany came back and tied the game before the end of the first half. Germany would score again near the end of the game, securing victory for the German soccer team.
The 1958 World Cup was held in the Celtic Union. In the championship, Virginia defeated Scandinavia 5-2. Virginia's path to victory was made by the soccer players who lived in former Spanish colonies, which the Virginia conquered in World War II. A player named Pele emerged from the Virginian team. This also marked the first the Russian Republic entered the tournament. Normandy also emerged as a powerful World Cup team by ending in third place, defeating defending champions Germany 6-3.

Germany made it to the finals again, only to be beaten by the Celtic Union 2-1, who got their first victory. Hungary would lose in the first round to the Russian Republic, who came in fourth. Portugal came in third place by defeating the Russian Republic 2-1 in the third place match.
The 1970 World Cup was held in France. Virginia qualified for the tournament again and had high hopes for the tournament because its team included many good players, including Pele and Carlos Alberto. Virginia destroyed all teams in its path, not losing a single game. In the championship game, Virginia faced Italy. Virginia defeated Italy 3-1. Germany came in third place by winning the third place game 1-0 over Hungary.

In the championship game they faced the powerful Virginian soccer team. The championship game had to go to extra time due to the game being tied at the end of regulation time. Italy would make it to the championship game, where it played one of the most dominant teams, Germany. In the final game, the first half would end with a 2-2 tie. In the second half, Italy would score twice and win the game 4-2. Normandy would come in third place by defeating the Celtic Union.
The 1986 World Cup was held in Virginia. Normandy, which had been in the third place game for the past two tournaments, made it to the finals this time. There, they faced a powerful Virginian squad, who defeated Germany in the semifinals. The game was tied 2-2 near the end of the second half. Then in the 85th minute, Normandy's Jean-Pierre Papin took a shot that the Virginian goalie could not save, thus Normandy won the game, 3-2.
The 1990 World Cup was held in Italy. The last World Cup winner, Normandy, made it to the quarter-finals where the would be defeated by Italy. Meanwhile, the Celtic Union advanced, defeating Germany in the semi-finals. Germany would then win the third place match. Italy and the Celtic Union played each other in the championship game. Italy scored two goals early in the game, and the Celtic Union could not answer. Italy would win 2-0.
The 1994 World Cup was held for the first in Africa, in Morocco. For the first time since 1950, Germany failed to make to the semi-finals; the were beat in the quarterfinals by the Ottoman team, who in fourth, losing to Scandinavia in the third place match. Virginia and Italy would play each other in the final. The game would go to penalty kicks. Tied 2-2, Virginia would score to make it 3-2, and Italy's Roberto Baggio would miss his shot, which made Virginia win the game. Virginia had one its fourth title.
The 1998 World Cup was held for the first time in Normandy. Germany would only make it to the semi-finals again, beaten by the Norman juggernaut. Virginia would make it to the semi-finals, only to be beaten by Vichy France. In a bad-tempered final, rivals Normandy and Vichy France played each other. Normandy defeated Vichy France easily 4-1.
For the first time, the World Cup was held in an Asian country: China. The hosts made it to the semi-finals before being beaten by their Cold War rival, Virginia. Germany also made it to the final, barely pulling off a victory over Italy. The game was reminiscent of past World Cups where Germany and Virginia played each other. Germany won in extra time 2-1.
Germany would win for a second time in a row, becoming only the second team to do so after Spain, who did it in 1934 and 1938. The German team was mainly made up of players from the last World Cup, and dominated all their opponents. Germany knocked off Spain in the semi-finals before playing Italy, who defeated the Celtic Union in their semi-final match. Germany would win this game swiftly as well, defeating Italy 2-0.
