Previous: Propaganda War against Nazis (CYOAH)
Revolted by the Nazis display of cruelty and barbarism, the government of Germany, lead by aging President and war hero Paul von Hindenburg, declares the Nazi Party illegal, and sends the army to Hamburg to save the German Unitarian State from being destroyed by the Nazis. However, Himmler and hundreds of loyal followers escape to Bavaria, still a relatively loyal area for the Nazis, and decide to begin a guerrilla war against both Germany and the DUS, until Himmler himself died in 1937 due to poor health, leading the Nazis in conditions little above primitive, with little to no medical care and difficulty in supplies. The guerrilla campaign sputtered on for a few more months, until the army finally destroyed the last pockets deep in the Black Forest.
The German Unitarian State was elected to lead Germany in 1931, and was able to stop the worst effects of the Great Depression with several massive state projects, including the Autobahn that linked every city in Germany, as well as projects to modernize factories, create new business and expand the merchant marine and the airship service. In 1938, with the final defeat of the Nazis in hand, the Allied powers gathered together, and agreed to lift some of the heaviest restrictions of the Versailles Treaty, most notably the allowance to expand the army, navy and air force, as well as the forced acceptance of the blame for the war, which was later jointly blamed on all the European Powers of 1914. Germany became part of the Allies, as did many of the other nations in Eastern and Southern Europe, against the threat of the Soviet Union. With the combined strength of the allies in Europe, Stalin realized that he could never invade and conquer the West, so an uneasy peace was established, which, after Stalin's death in 1953, became permanent. With no Israel, or the devastation of World War II and the 'mutually assured destruction' of the Cold War, the world is surprisingly peaceful, with the few threats of war being resolved in front of the reformed League of Nations.
The world in 2010 is one of peace, prosperity and technological advancement. After placing man on the Moon in 1959, and later Mars in 1972, the peaceful transition of Africa from colonies to nations, and the worldwide economic boom since the Great Depression has ensured that there is little poverty and injustice, while democracy and freedom are universal concepts, accepted by every nation in the world. Many historians attribute this "Global Golden Age" to the death of a little known man with a funny mustache, Adolf Schikelgruber in 1927.
