Vladikaskady (Russian: Владикаскады; lit. "Ruler of the Cascades") is the largest city in the governorate of Oregon and the third largest city of Alaska.
The city was founded in 1829 as a Russian settlement on the Columbia River. The name Vladikaskady literally translates as "Ruler of the Cascades" (comparable to Vladikavkaz and Vladivostok), and the name was chosen to emphasize Russia's new dominance in the region.
