After the discovery of OTL Nunavut, the tribes in the area were willing to defend themselves. Not predicting the manpower of the tribes, Vinland gathered 1,500 troops to fight them.

After finding out that the Inuit were willing to fight for their own lives, Vinland quickly mobilized another 1,000 troops to the front. But it was too late. They were losing 2/3rds of their battles, and were barely scraping by.

After sending the new troops in Mid-1189, they were still losing over half of their battles, so they were forced to move 600 more troops to the front.

By this time, they were winning, but the Inuit struck back in Helluland. In a raid that lasted three days, the tribes killed 32 people. The Vinlanders only managed to kill eight of the raiders, which led them to add more defense at home. In early 1191, Vinland moved 32 more people to the Helluland border to keep the tribes back.

Over the next four years, things dragged on as they always had. The Vinlanders were losing 11/20ths of their battles, and had lost many more lives than the Inuit. In 1195, after protests began in Kysten Byen to stop the "violent murder of their families", Vinland surrendered on December 26.

In Early 1196, the Vinlandic King at the time decided to allow the Inuit their own territory, and agreed not to colonize it. On April 22, the United Chiefdoms of Inuit was formed as an independent confederation of tribes away from Vinland. Over the following years, even though Vinland has only colonized outside the defined borders of the tribes, they have had many conflicts with the UCI since.
