Vinland flag

Flag of Vinland.

Vinland (meaning Vineland in Old Norse) is the name used to refer to the coastal area of Noth America explored by Leif Ericsson and the Vikings and settled in approximately the year 1000. Vinland covered what is now present-day Newfoundland and Labrador, Gulf of Saint Lawrence, and northeastern New Brunswick. The main sources of information regarding our knowledge of Vinland and the expeditions in particular come from The Saga of Eric the Red and Saga of the Greenlanders from Iceland. In OTL, the Vikings left Vinland and gone back to Greenland due to internal disagreement and hostile Native Americans, however in a number of alternate timelines the colony of Vinland survives and become its own nation.
