With the real life announcement of the Nintendo 2DS, the question has come up as to where this can fit in the Ohga Shrugs timeline. The following are a few possible calendars.

Pre-2DS Version[]

  • June 6, 2011 - Game Boy 3DS is announced
  • March 3, 2012 - Game Boy 3DS is launched at $200 with Mario Kart 3D, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Resident Evil: Revelations
  • June 11, 2013 - Game Boy 3DS XL is announced
  • July 12, 2013 - Game Boy 3DS XL is released alongside Mario & Luigi: Dream Team at $200, original model is reduced to $170

Conservative Addition[]

  • E3 2014 - Game Boy 2DS is announced
  • Q3/Q4 2014 - Game Boy 2DS is released, price cuts possible.

2 Sku Start[]

  • June 6, 2011 - Game Boy 3DS and 3DS XL are both announced
  • March 3, 2012 - Game Boy 3DS and 3DS XL are launched at $200 and $250 respectively with Mario Kart 3D, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Resident Evil: Revelations
  • June 11, 2013 - Game Boy 2DS is announced
  • October 12, 2013 - Game Boy 2DS is released alongside Pokemon X/Y at $130, original model is reduced to $170, XL to $200

Late 2011 Start[]

  • June 6, 2011 - Game Boy 3DS is announced
  • November 20, 2011 - Game Boy 3DS is released just in advance of Black Friday in US, alongside Mario Kart 3D and a remake of either Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, or Donkey Kong 64, for a price of $200.
  • November 25, European release of Game Boy 3DS
  • December 1, 2011 - Japanese release of Game Boy 3DS
  • Q1 2012 - Titles such as Kid Icarus: Uprising and Resident Evil: Revelations are released.
  • October 2012 - The Game Boy 3DS XL is announced, to be released the following month.
  • November 2012 - Game Boy 3DS XL is released worldwide, often bundled with games such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Assassin's Creed: Liberation.
  • August 28, 2013 - Game Boy 2DS is announced for a simultaneous release with Pokemon X/Y.
