[edit] PODs

  • 1071-The Seljuk Turks lose the battle of Mankizert. This leads to un easy peace treaty between both Greek & Turk.
  • 1176-105, the Seljuk break the peace treaty and try to push westward. Eager to win, this lead to military blunders, which the Byzantine Empire, Kingdom fo Hungary, and Crusader States exploited to the point of near destruction of the Turkic peoples in Asia Minor. Due to the "Pogrom of Konya" (all Muslims were killed, Muslim Turk buildings looted and burned, mosques & other Islamic artifacts all destroyed). The Ottoman Empire never gains power, barely reaching the border of Syria.
  • 1191- Richard III of England does not Capture Cyprus. It stays in Greek hands to this day.
  • 1204- Content with the destruction of the Seljuks 30 years prior and expanding the Crusader States to nearly Ankara, after the Crusaders did not recapture Jerusalem, they were content with staying in Turkey & the Levant exploiting Muslims & Jews in the area.

1453-Due to *here*'s key points in the destruction of the Byzantine Empire never happening here, the Byzantine empire stays strong. Byzantium and Her allies easily repel the Turks, leaving them worse of then before.

  • 1486-In 1485, Italian explorer Christopher Columbus brings a plan to John II, of Portugal that he could find a western passage into the Orient. Having been rejected by Portugal, Christopher turned to Iberia. He brings the same proposal to King Ferdinand II of Aragon & Queen Isabella I of Castile telling them of the Western Passage to the Orient. In 1486 he gives the plans to Queen Issabella whose royal committee also realizes the distant he gave to reach Asia is too short. *Here* when they conquered the last piece of Muslim lands (Grenada), they agreed after 2 years of negotiation. In this world, with Spain deciding to focus more on rescuing Spain, decided to decline and put their efforts into destroying the Muslim forces. So in 1488, Christopher Columbus tried one last time to convince a head of state to fund his journey. This time he tried to ruler of the rented colony of Chiops, Emperor Manuel III Palaiologos, son of Constantine XI Palaiologos (who was able to have a child, albeit a late in life child who was able to carry on the Palaiologos name). Bemused, he agreed to fund this expedition which launched off the Canary Islands August 3rd, 1492.
  • October 13th, 1492- Due to slight weather complications the night before, Christopher's crew did not reach land till the next day and landed in *here*'s Isla de la Juventud. Stavros Leganopolous, the boy stationed at the crow's nest shouted "έδαφος, έδαφος!!!" (land, land!!!) at around dawn. They landed minutes later, to the shock of the natives. Their cheiftain went down to the beach to see them. They made no threats and did not move to attack. Christopher wrote in his journal "Many of the men I have seen have scars on their bodies, and when I made signs to them to find out how this happened, they indicated that people from other nearby islands come to Ayios Anthreas to capture them; they defend themselves the best they can. I believe that people from the mainland come here to take them as slaves. They ought to make good and skilled servants, for they repeat very quickly whatever we say to them. I think they can very easily be made Christians*, for they seem to have no religion. If it pleases our Lord, I will take 10 or so of them to The Master of the World when I depart, in order that they may learn our language. I could conquer the whole of them with 50 men, and govern them for the glory of Greece as our King desires." (Christopher himself converted to Eastern Orthodoxy the day of his voyage).
