The United States presidential election of 2016 was the 58th quadrennial American presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

Incumbent President Romney was considered vulnerable after disappointing midterms for the Republican party in 2014. However, his approval numbers remained high and he was credited with a recovering economy. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton suffered several gaffes on the campaign trail and was considered unlikeable by a number of voters.
