The United States presidential election of 1976 was the 48th quadrennial election. Incumbent president Hubert Humphrey was ineligible to run for a third term. His Vice President, Edmund Muskie had been rumored to run for a while. He ran unopposed of the nomination. Humphrey's approval rating was at an all time high, making it easy for Muskie to campaign on. Muskie won by a landslide.
