The United States of America were originally colonies of Great Britain which declared independence in 1776 and gained the independence in subsequent war with Great Britain. In 1812 another war took place between the USA and Great Britain the result of which was disastrous for the new nation. It lost a great deal of land to Great Britain and various Indian tribes and the New England states seceded. In the 1830s several states in the southwest seceded and formed a new nation, the Republic of Texarkana.
