Flag of the United States

The United States of America is a federal republic that was founded in 1776, and currently one of the survivor nations from the nuclear war.

The nation won independence after the American Revolution.  Only a few years later, the nation was wracked by the War of 1812.  This led to a time of peace and expansion with Manifest Destiny, and the Louisiana Purchase.

Then the United States won the Mexican-American War and expanded the territory, annexing the Republic of Texas.  Only a few years later a long Civil War was fought between the Confederate States of America and the United States of America.  After four years of war the USA won and Reconstruction era began.  This continued with racism and segregation under the Jim Crow Laws.

At the start of the Great War, the United States pursued a policy of isolationism, and stayed out of the war until the sinking of the Lusitania.  This pulled the US into the war, and the completion of it.  Following the conflict, there was a decade of prosperity, the Roaring 20's.  Prohibition led to speakeasies and gangsters.

After the fall of the stock markets on Black Tuesday, led to the Great Depression, and financial ruin of the nation.  The Dust Bowl exasperated the issue, leading to food shortages due to poor irrigation and soil conservation.  FDR instituted the CWC and other financial and social programs to boost the economy.  Before the end, another European War broke out, World War II.  On December 7, 1941 the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, dragging the US into another global conflict, winning battle after battle at Midway, Guadacanal, Normandy, and Sicily.  To end the war, America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

This led to the Cold War between NATO and Warsaw Pact.  Wars fought during this included Korea and Vietnam.  The Cuban Missile Crisis was the last issue before World War III.
