In exchange for their help, President George Washington signed a trade agreement with the Aztecs. This led to major ties forged between Washington DC and Tenochtitlan. After the Lousiana purchase of 1803, the French had border problems with the Aztecs, which were resolved at the Jefferson line of 1804.
