The United States presidential election of 1988 was the 51st quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 8, 1988. Incumbent Vice President Richard McCormack won the Democratic nomination and chose Congressman Edgar Horvath of Arkansas as his running mate. The Republicans nominated former Indiana Governor Coleman Baker with Senator Sharon Reimer of New Hampshire as his running mate. In addition, businessman Bradley Halston of New York was nominated for the Libertarian ticket alongside his running mate Wes O'Brien.
