The United States of America (also known as the United States, the US, USA, and America) is a republic located in North America. It consists of 48 contiguous states and Alaska located to the west of Canada and Hawaii, which is an archipelago in the Pacific. Its capital, Washington D.C., is located among the 48 contiguous states.
The United States is one of the few democratic nations left in the world, along with Canada and the Soviet rump state. It has maintained a strict isolationist policy since the 1930s, and has not fought any wars since then. It and Germany have signed many trade and peace agreements, and is one of the only countries not to be under any German influence.
The US is one of the most culturally diverse countries on the planet, due to large scale immigration from Europe, Africa, South America, and the Middle East. Many see the US a beacon of hope for democracy, but it military is way behind Germany's technologically, and its leaders have no interest in foreign affairs.
