The United Communist States was founded in 1918, after four years of war, revolution, civil disarray, and shortages. This was the world's first Communist state, and competed with with other nations in economic, military and technological strength for around a decade, before being conquered by Germany. This ended the world's first Communist state, and also gave the Germans a massive boost to their resources and power. The UCS lasted from 1918 to 1937.
The UCS came out of the Great War after Russia fell apart when the Central Powers gained a large amount of Russian land. This led to massive inflation, dwindling sources of supplies, and enemy armies in Russia itself. Massive revolts began in 1916, and it soon turned into a civil war very quickly. A new provisional government came out, but when it vowed to stay in the war and started giving orders for attacks that could never take place, the October Revolutions began in 1917. Its first leader was Lenin, who quickly began working to restore the nation back to its greatness.
Lenin began nationalizing all industries, much to the West's dismay. Ties between the UCS and Germany were cut off, but the UCS did not do anything about this as the Germans were stronger than them. The rest of the 20s mainly were about industrialization of the nation and equaling worker's rights. In 1924, Stalin becomes leader of the UCS, and farmers start to be sent to the cities to work in the factories. This leads to decreases in agriculture production, and only through the large modernization of the entire industry is massive famines stopped. 1.7 million people died before the famines could be successfully stopped. The military was built up, and industrial production soon reached pre-war levels. In 1934, Germany struck first after years of tensions between the UCS and Germany. The Germans made rapid advances and soon surrounded Stalingrad by 1935. The Siege of Stalingrad began, and the UCS fate did not look good. They lasted a little longer when Communist Britain invaded Northern France, but without the support of the UCS or any other Communist nation, the invasion failed. Japan declared war on the UCS, and now all factories past the Ural Mountains were in range of Japanese bombers. Moscow was soon surrounded when the Germans skipped it and captured Vovograd instead. When the Russians failed to take it back, Moscow fell, and so did the UCS. They surrounded the next day, and this brought the end of the UCS.
