The Union of Arab States (UAS; Arabic: اتحاد الدول العربية, Aittihʻad ad-Duwal al-ʻArabīyah) is a political union of eight member states that are located in North Africa and the Middle East. It covers an area of at least 8,410,562 km2 (3,247,336 sq mi). The UAS operates through a system of supranational institutions legislated by the primary constitutional body of the organisation; the United Arab Congress, to which ministers are appointed every two years by member states.
