[edit] History:

The Union of American States was born during the 13 Original colonies war for independence against the british Empire. Agreeing with the reasons for independence, but not with the way the 13 colonies proposed to run the new nation, the western part of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina and Georgia seceded and formed the Union of American States. During the early years, the UAS did not do as well as it’s neighbour, the United States. While their economy grew steadily, the UAS economy grew in small, stuttering steps.

[edit] Foriegn Relations:

[edit] Preparing For War:

At the turn of the 19th century, relations between the United States and the Union of American States, while frosty and hostile, were civil. President Garner of the United States maintained diplomatic relations with President Tingey of the UAS. This had a moderating effect, reducing tensions along the border and allowing for diplomatic exchanges for the first time in history. There was a brief 3-year period from 1917 to 1920 where the relations between the two nations seemed to hold and, for a short while, it looked as if relations might improve even further. Unbeknownst to the United States, the UAS, regarding the United States success and military power enviously, slowly but surely drew plans against them. The UAS leaders knew that the military, while strong, was no match for that of the United States. They decided on a “divide and conquer” technique, selecting the state of Appalachia(Western Virginia) to start the invasion.

[edit] Decent Into War:

In a move that caught the US off guard, UAS troops crossed over into Ohio and launched an invasion from Ohio of West Virginia. The PAS Governor General lodged a formal protest with President Tingey, claiming that their actions will cause the US to attack them. Governor General Tackman sent word to President Garner, denying any PAS knowledge of the attack. In retaliation, the United States had instigated a total ban on trade and travel with the UAS, withdraws it’s diplomatic staff and arrests and detains the UAS ambassador and his staff. Threats from the US to withdraw trade and ban travel with the Florida Federation and the Protectorate of American States, ensured that neither of those nations would interfere or take sides against the US. Faced with an almost crippling isolation, the UAS would have folded sooner if it were not for the assistance the Allied States of America provided them. The UAS also planned to launch an attack on Pennsylvania; upon finding out, the United States declares total war and launches a full offensive against the UAS.

[edit] Loosing A State:

While the US declaration of war came as no surprise to the UAS, the ferocity of the US counter-attack did indeed catch them by surprise. Whle US forces pushed the UAS force out of US soil, a United States counter-attack smashed ther UAS force in Appalachia. Faced with overwhelming enemy forces, the UAS cut-and-ran, and within two days, West Virginia had fallen. The US forces quickly captured the leaders of Appalachia, who were arrested on trumped up war-crimes charges. With Appalachia firmly under Union control, the United States prepared for an assault on Kentucky; which was delayed when UAS forces crossed into North Carolina from South Carolina, they were quickly repulsed by US forces.

[edit] The First Cease-Fire:

Within says of the failed attack on North Carolina, the UAS declares a cease-fire, which the United States accepts after discussing it in Congress for a week. Both sides know that the cease-fire is just an excuse so that both sides can take stock of their losses re-arm. There is a heavy Union crackdown on West Virginia, as there are still small pockets of UAS loyalists hiding within the captured state.

[edit] The US Invades:

Cathing the UAS off guard, a force of half a million US troops crossed over from the US and began a massive invasion. Being unprepared for such a massive assault, the US military was dealt a cripling blow, reduced to being able to do no more than slow the US advance. One by one, the states that made up the UAS fell under US control. The captured states still remain under UAS authority in all but name, the US invasion advances further each day. Eventully, the US army hasd the twon of Charlston, Wets Virginia surounded, as that is where the UAS leadership are holding up. After a three week seige, the remnants of the UAS leadership surrender to the US invasion force.

[edit] The Calm:

After the UAS states of Appalachia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina and Georgia were integrated into the Union, there was a brief period of peace in North America. The United States was delirious at having gained 6 new states, and March 3rd was made a national holiday, “Union Day”. The western North American Nations of the California Commonwealth and Allied States sent official protests to Washington about the annexation of the Union of American States, they remained outside of the fighting; they did recall their respective ambassadors from the United States during the war as a protest of the invasion of the UAS. After the wars end, both the California Commonwealth and the Allied States resumed diplomatic relations with the expanded United States. During the war, the other nations of North America maintained relations with the United States, and even the UAS, right up until the surrender and dissolution of the UAS.

[edit] Dissoloution Of A Nation:

With the capture of the UAS leadership, the United States demanded that the UAS surrender to US occupation and statehood. The surrender was signed on june 18th at 3:18 am. The states that made up the UAS were admitted into the Union. The Allied States and the California Confederation lodged official protests, which were ignored by Washington
