The Union Flag, also known as the Union Jack, is the national flag of the Realm of New Britain. It retains an official or semi-official status in some Commonwealth Realms, for in example in Canada where it is known as the Royal Union Flag. The current design dates from the Union of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801.
Recently there had been talks of altering the national flag to include native African elements. The coat of arms have been similarly challenged. A competition was in effect and on September 21, 2005 New Britain changed their flag to an updated version.
Many countries in the post-Doomsday world use the Union Flag in their national flags, either as a symbol of their lineage as a colony of the UK or as a symbol of their link to nations that were once British colonies.
