Ulysses S. Grant (born Hiram Ulysses Grant; April 27, 1822 – July 23, 1885) was the 18th President of the United States (1870–77). Prior to serving as President, Grant served as Vice-President from 1869-1870 under President Robert E. Lee, and as a major general of the Union Army during the American Civil War.
