Ubisoft is a French video game publisher. It was founded in March 1986 by five brothers. Today, they are best known for their Assassin's Creed games, and are one of the largest video game publishers in the world.

Early History

Ubisoft got their start by making deals with companies like Electronic Arts, Sierra On-Line and LucasArts to distribute their PC games in France.

After Ohga Shrugs

In the early 90's, Ubisoft began internal development. The 1996 release of Rayman for the Sega Saturn launched the company into stardom, as the game quickly became a multi-million seller. Ubisoft spent the next few years expanding, establishing studios in France and Canada among other places.

Ubisoft continued their strong of hits in the sixth console generation with their reboot of the Prince of Persia franchise, made possible by the acquisition of rights to the franchise some years earlier. Their success escalated further with the 2007 release of Assassin's Creed, which revolutionized Open-World games on consoles. Since then, Ubisoft has become one of the biggest players in the console industry, with studios making games for virtually every platform and in many genres.
