The Kingdom of Tuscaron, Tuscaron, is a medium sized constitutional monarchy in Eastern Leifia. It is bordered by, clockwise from North: Powhatanland, Dasamongueponkland, Catawbaland and Yesanland. The population is around 1.7 million and the capital is Nooherooka.
The offical language is Tuscaronan
The Head of State is King Akawentcaka
The currency is the Powhatan Kronu (PWK).
The Tuscaronan people originally lived in the Sudervik area of what is now Álengiamark. Their tribe was pushed westward into what is now the Six Nations by the conflict between the Sudervik tribes that preceded the Norse arrival in the area, but was intensified by the spread of iron weapons and disease.
The majority of the Tuscaroan chiefs allied themselves with Edoha as he expanded the Aniyunwiyan Empire to the Northeast. Impressed with their claims of dominance over their neighbours at he left them to carve out a fief of their own within the Empire and shore up its defenses. The chiefs were boastful however, and were not as powerful as they had convinced Edoha they were. Reprisals from their neighbours did not take long to wear down defenses and Edoha was forced to send Aniyunwiyan cavalry to assist them, and largely took over their fief, handing the area to his daughter Atamaja, now ruling over the puppet state of Álengiamark.
The position of the chiefs and much of the Tuscaronan population became untenable and unwilling to be absorbed within another group they began the 'Exodus' to another part of the Aniyunwiyan realm, namely the area recently taken from the Dasamongueponk Yarls. Those Tuscaronan left behind the North quickly came to terms with their neighbours and their chiefs intermarried with the Senecans forming a powerful block on Álengsk power in 'Unamiland'. Those who would eventually settle in the less densely populated south of Aniyunwiyan the quickly forged a fief that prospered and would eventually withstand the final collapse of central Aniyunwiyan power, helped no end by the relative light effect of the Black Death in their lands.
The most powerful of the chiefs, Occanee, declared himself King in 1486 triggering a civil war which would consume most of the next century as various dynasties of chiefs, as well as Occanee's heirs fought amongst themselves for the crown. The chaos this wrought on the Tuscaronan economy left it isolated and it largely ran a subsistence economy until the links generated by the Mexic-Leifian War (1622-1632) led it to increase production of tobacco. Profits from this largely disappeared into the pockets of the Kings and, until a narrowly defeated rebellion during the 'Leifian Crisis' forced a change of heart, the kingdom was an absolute autocracy.
Wars with its neighbours, chiefly Yesanland and Catawbaland, in the 18th and 19th century led to a loss of almost a third of its territory which severely tested the coffers of the kingdom. A lessening of the profits on tobacco in the early 20th century led to the creation of the Powhatan Customs Union with its northern neighbour in 1925.
Tuscaron is governed by a single chambered council with elections every four years. The King still retains a wide range of executive powers but they are rarely used, and whether the public would allow the unpopular King Akawentcaka to use them is another matter.
The Chief Minister is Coreo Junkata.
