History[]

Originally occupying lands near the the Fraeburt Votnum, like many tribes the Tsétsêhéstâhese were pushed to the west by the expansion of Aniyunwiya and then further into the Great Plains by the Lakota. During this period no permanent buildings were built. Instead, the tribe moved with the bison herds. The tribe's land was overwhelmed by Mexica during the First Mexic-Leifian War. However, they mostly escaped annihilation by moving, wholesale, to Isanyathi territory for the war's duration. Tsétsêhéstâhese warriors formed a valued part of Vinland's Lutheran alliance which secured the plains as Mexica slowly retreated. By 1632 the tribe had reoccupied their adopted lands though these were more proscribed than before thanks to the Lakota now in ascendancy.

This homeland soon found itself on Álengiamark's Gullvega which transported gold from Snjorjamark (see Atsugkriga) to the Mississippi. The chiefs agreed to Álengsk military presence as it the effect of warding off Lakota attacks but slowly became wary of foreign influence. They would plough the revenues from the Gullvega into the military to try and match Shoshone and Lakota strength whilst promoting the tribe's religion to oppose Catholicism spread by Álengsk preachers.

In 1664 Ónonevóo'óeve (ironically educated in Álengiamark) codified the Ma'heo'o religion and sanctifying the long line of 'prophets' whom had guided the tribe's actions throughout its history. Almost the only stone buildings in the entire country were the sun temples erected in auspicious places during the later 17th century.

The country would be occupied outright by Mexica during the Second Mexic-Leifian War and this time the more sedentary population was essentially enslaved. The line of chiefs had been eradicated by Mexic administrators during reprisals for resistance and when the country was liberated in 1792 at the war's close the only unifying aspect was religion. Due to this government centred on the office of Prophet and decisions fell to the tight-knit circle of his acolytes.

The current regime is regarded by many as almost perversely inconsistent; for instance, in 1974 they commissioned Nakotaland to send a survey team to properly map the country and scout out potential mineral deposits. Only seven months into the operations the entire team was expelled for 'spying' with no evidence provided. For this reason, the country is regarded as a liability in terms of economic prospects and also in showing a united front against Mexica.

Government[]

Tsetsehestahesia is a theocracy and governed by a small chamber picked entirely by the ruling Prophet. Much like the Papacy the 'Prophets' are chosen on the incumbents' deaths by a conclave of priests. The ruling priesthood is tightly bound to the military. There is no political discourse, almost total censorship and no public elections of any kind.
