The Game

1901.0

The games have now started. Please take your turns and good luck to everyone!

  • Britain: Britain sends more soldiers down to South Africa to carry out its ongoing war against the Boer Republics. The British navy begins making plans for dreadnought-type ships of war.
  • Japan: The Japanese Navy begins making plans for an dreadnought-type of warship, capable of heavy firepower. Meanwhile, the Japanese Army sends more soldiers to Taiwan and the Japanese portion of the island bordering Russia. Trade agreements are sent to the United States and Great Britain, as Japan will soon be in the need for resources.
  • Spain: Tensions between Spain and Britain increase in the face of an incident where a British ship shot at a Spanish convoy that was mistaken as a pirate fleet off the coast of Portugal. Spanish troops mobilize and amass on the border of Portugal. Spain begins researching flight, even going as far as to try to send spies into the USA to find blueprints rumored to be owned by Wilbur and Orville Wright in Kitty Hawk, South Carolina, but they are intercepted by a British fleet en route.
  • United States: Expands its military and researches airplanes. Cars start to become more common. An idea for a canal is processed - a law passed for a canal from the Pacific to Atlantic but no definite locations yet, An alliance is offered to Britain, France, Canada, and Ottomans.
    • Here comes the implausibility! Hooray! (Sarcasm) Right now, America is isolationist, although being imperialistic. America would not make any alliances. Second of all, the Ottoman Empire is already allied with the three Allies (Germany, A-H, Italy) and Britain and France are opposing allies to that faction. Thirdly, you don't offer an alliance to Canada. It's British.
    • The Ottoman Empire wasn't allied yet, they allied early in OTL WW-I. And Canada was technically granted independence in the 1860's or 1870's in the Act of Confederation.
    • Canada was in fact independent, but still a dominion of the British Empire.
    • Either way, it's implausible. America is an imperialist neutral isolationist nation. No alliances until late 1910s.
    • On the other hand, with the OE and A-H with Bulgaria in the Balkan Wars, they are thus part of the opposing faction to Britain and the Dual Entente.
  • Austria-Hungary: The Austrian government recently notices tension in Europe and is concerned over the possible outbreak of war. Archduke Franz Ferdinand issues that the government spend more funds on the army, considering the navy is sub-par.
  • Brazil: Brazil begins to build up its economy and begins social, economic and political reform. The military is expanded and upgraded.
  • Chile: Chilean government implement measures for improving the armed forces, and sent to the Congress new laws for change the political and economical system.
  • Bolivia builds up its military and economy system. The Bolivian Congress change the economics laws.
  • The Ottoman Empire: The Sultan begins to pass military and economic reforms, while the military and navy begin to be modernized and expanded. Research into heavier than air flight begins. The Empire, hating Italy, begins to try to find an ally against the Italians, and seeing as Italy is allied wit6h Germany, the Ottoman Empire begins to try to heal Anglo-Ottoman relations as well as with France, offering them trade deals and open border deals including Mecca while Jerusalem will be opened to a limited number of visitors every two weeks. These are passed only because the Sultan has " a vision" stating that if the Empire does not find strong allies soon, it may not exist in the future. The Ottoman Empire launches a massive invasion of the Arabian Peninsula and defeats the tribes in the peninsula using cavalry and machine guns, and the territories are annexed.
    • Machine guns have not been invented yet and Arabia is so harsh that no nation could conquer it in one turn. Also, what did I tell you about editing your turn to take over more land?
    • You and Italy and Germany and A-H are on the same side in the Balkan Wars. Thus, you are somewhat (somewhat) pro-Italian and somewhat (somewhat) pro-A-H and somewhat (somewhat) pro-German and somewhat (somewhat) anti-Anglo-Franco-Russian.
  • Germany:Germany, like Britain, continues to build on its current Navy, establishing the German High Seas Fleet, with plans for a new series of large battleships being drawn up. The German Army also lands in Moroccan harbors, beginning a military colonization of the nation, landing 250,000 soldiers to begin in the invasion process. German also recognizes the need for an ally in the Americas and so they offer a trade agreement and alliance to Brazil.
  • Argentina: Julio Argentino Roca has taken the deserts for him. His next objective is clear: the Falklands. He looks for good relationships with countries of Europa that are traditionally anti-British. Julio Argentino Pascual Roca, the son of the President, travels to Vienna to gather with the Emperor Franz Josef and then to Germany to gather with both the Emperor Wilhelm II and the Chancellor Bernhard von Bülow. He proposes both countries, in name of his father, a trade pact and a political-military alliance. Meanwhile, Roca strengthen the army by creating new corps and recruiting more men.
    • Germany: Germany accepts Argentina's offers and requests that Austria-Hungary follow.
    • Austria-Hungary: Austria also accepts Argentina's offers.
  • Switzerland: The Swiss government becomes interested in Aeroplanes heavier-than-air flight. They attempt to research heavier-than-air flight in the hopes of building a flying machine.
    • Fair enough......

1901.5

  • Brazil begins to forge closer ties with the United States, Chile, France, and Argentina. They begin military research to produce new military technologies. They declare war on Uruguay to invade it.
  • Germany: Germany produces plans for a new class of battleships called the Bismarck-class, with the preparations for building the first three ships being made. The flagship of the new High Seas Fleet and first ship in the class, the SMS Bismarck, is laid down in Kiel harbor, as is the bodies of the SMS Deutschland and SMS Bade. Two other ships, the SMS Schleswig-Holstein and SMS Nassau are also laid down in Hamburg. New industrial programs are begun across Germany to help and boost the economy and to increase the nation's shipping industry. Again Germany offers Brazil an alliance.
    • Brazilian Diplomacy: It accepts Germany's request.
  • Japan: Japan sends an military fleet an annexes the unclaimed islands off the coast of Russia. Research into heavier-than-air flight begins, and the JIN Yamato and JIN Tokyo is laid down in Tokyo Harbor, and the Japanese military is expanded. An non-aggression pact is sent to the US, China, and Russia. The Yamato is the first battleship to be produced by Japan, and is expected to be completed in 1902.
  • Switzerland: Decides to slow down on its heavier than air flight program, as they are getting nowhere, to to unsuitable conditions in the alps. They start with lighter than air flight first, and focus on the construction of dirigibles.
  • United States: Works on heavier than air travel. United States accepts Brazil's offer for stronger ties and offers a trade agreement to Brazil. A new navy fleet, called the East Fleet for the East Coast is laid with the flagship USS Lincoln. The United States Congress passes a bill to build a canal in Nicaragua or Panama and offer to buy Panama from Columbia for $40 million USD. Columbia (by random.org 8) accepts and Panama is turned over to the US. A plan for the canal is to be done next year. US accepts Japans non-aggression pact. A new port starts construction in Pearl Harbor.
    • Please remain plausible. The United States is isolationist, meaning no alliances currently.
    • Relax, they never said anything about alliances.
    • Ties are no good either. Also, if the US would make an alliance anyway, it would be with the UK or France, not Brazil. Besides, Brazil is German-allied. The US would keep trade, but nothing along the lines of close ties.
    • America had good ties to Britain at this time as well, so while alliances are implausible, closer relations are not. And Germany being allied to Brazil has nothing to do with it, as Germany had good relations with the US as well.
    • Actually, German allied to Brazil does make a difference. America is good with Britain, who is good with France, who is bad with Germany. If America becomes good with Brazil, Britain would normally get ticked.
  • Spain: A new leader is elected in Spain, who declares himself Emperor and declares a police state. The Emperor (as he is only known as) vows to dominate the Caribbean, starting with Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Massive fleets are mobilized and war is declared on Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Great Britain, and France. Troops mobilize and march into France, beginning the Invasion of 1901. Meanwhile, heavy industry build-up and modernization of the railway system occurs, heavier-than-air flight research continues, a rebuilding of the Spanish Armada begins, new battleship designs are commissioned, and a blockade of Great Britain is set up. In addition, Spain threatens war on the US if it does not hand over Cuba and Florida immediately. Spain offers a military/political alliance with Germany and Brazil (Spain is content with Brazilian independence).
    • Japanese Diplomacy: Japan denounces Spain's hostiles actions, and states that all Japanese ports are shut down to Spanish ships.
    • Brazilian Diplomacy: It is shocked about Spain's actions and absolutely refuses to establish relations with Spain! They declare support to France and ask the Japanese for help.
    • Germany: Germany outright refuses the Spanish offer, saying they shall not get caught up in a "vehement war of aggression" in the words of the German Chancellor.
    • Argentina: President Roca supports France. The Argentinian ports will be only open to refugees who try to scape from the Spanish dictator, no for the Spanish government itself. Also some troops are sent under the command of José Félix Uriburu and Julio Argentino Pascual Roca to supports respectively Brazil and France.
  • Britain: The British Navy breaks through the small Spanish navy blockading Britain. The British Army is mobilized and the fleets in the Caribbean are also put on alert. Britain calls on America and France to temporarily join together to defeat the Spanish.
    • The Blockade was bigger than that. I'm talking, like, 20 ships. How many do you have?
    • Dude, this is the British Navy. I'm pretty sure MP had more than that, but I'll let him make the call.
    • This is the British Empire we are talking about. They had the largest navy in the world at this time. And to be fair, you might want to increase the size of your fleet as well. Even Spain would have a fleet larger than 20 ships
    • See? I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so.
  • The Ottoman Empire: The Empire very briefly considers helping Spain. (This is secret!) However, all thoughts of this are dismissed. The Empire turns back to improving its armed forces.
    • Spanish Diplomacy: Help us, or we will make every waking moment for you a swirling torrent of pain and misery!
    • Hey, that was "secret" and we never thought of it. And you are threatening us? Austria-Hungary would swiftly declare war on you if this was OTL and you would die. Fast.
    • All right, all right. We rescind our threat, and we knew because we have some great spies (James Bond-caliber, in fact).
    • Sure. Spanish guys in Arab nation. Sure we never noticed that they look nothing like us.
  • Australia:The newly federated nation begins amalgamating the various militaries of the six former colonies into the Military of the Commonwealth of Australia. It asks Britain for some ships with which to get the navy started. Prime Minister Edward Barton vows to make all railway gauges the same throughout the nation. Australia also garrisons Southeast New Guinea in defence against the Germans in the North of the Island.
  • Chile: A census show that the national population reach to 3,000,000. Government begin a program for improve to the Armed forces, and bring engineers from Europe and North America. A military campaign against Peru begin to be prepared.

  • I don't know how an algorithm works. And by that, I mean I'm TOTALLY clueless!
  • You just add the numbers to see who wins.
  • How?
  • Don't worry, I'll do it for you.
  • Don't worry, I did it. IMPERIAL NY-SPQR 1 Syngraféas Enallaktikí̱ Istoría, Dic mihi lingua Anglorum. 23:55, March 22, 2012 (UTC)

A military alliance is proposed to Japan. Secret research has begun on lighter-than-air flight; due to already existing Zeppelin designs, it is expected to finish within 18 months.
    • New Kyoto? Why would they name it New Kyoto?
    • The Japanese have provided a lot of help getting China modernized, as well as letting them have plans for airships.
    • Even so, China still hates Japan for the Sino-Japanese War, they would never name it after Kyoto.
    • Well, three things: 1. Didn't China support Japan in the Russo-Japanese War? 2. A new Chinese Government would be more lenient on the Japanese 3. I am thinking a new Chinese government would need a powerful ally, and Japan would seem the most reliable.
    • 1. No. China was neutral in the war and if they had to choose a side, it would be Russia. 2. Even the Chine people hated the Japanese, whether they were a different form of government or not wouldn't matter. 3. In competition with Japan China choose the Western nations, not to mention allying to the Japanese would be seen as betraying the Chinese nation. Naming a city after a Japanese one would be seen by many Chinese as either a betrayal of teh government or an attempt of Japan to colonize China.

  • Ba dum-crash! Bombs on planes already? Come on! And Germany? Italy? Your friends? Pals? Comrades? Allies?
  • Slow down. The Ottoman Empire didn't ally with Germany until 1914, and they actually were at war with Italy at this time OTL, so what they are doing is fine.
  • Germany is allied with Austria-Hungary, who is on the same side as the OE in the Balkan Wars.
  • And since when were you bad with America? The OE hardly even interacts with the West. And secondly, since there was no Italy in the game to start the Tripolitanian War, there was no Turko-Italian War.
  • Even so, Italy and the Ottoman Empire were not the best of friends.
  • OK, but America?

      • No, no, you misunderstood me. I'm just saying that if they want, they will side with the Entente. (Thus being the Allies.) They can be neutral if they want.
      • Brazilian Diplomacy: It declares an alliance with the Balkan states and promises Serbia to gain Bosnia from Austria.
      • French Diplomacy: France joins.
  • Russia: The first Russian Planes are tested, and they are pretty successful. Sikorsky aeronautics is founded, and research is put into a "cabin" and a fuselage safe to walk through. Russian military is upgraded as Russia is modernized and civil unrest grows. Russia joins the International alliance.
  • China: Focus is shifted to stimulating growth in the economy. A few companies have emerged as enterprising and have been funded by the state. Industrialization continues at a slower pace. Propaganda begins to encourage people to join the military. The Xin Gonglu is completed. Construction on the Xin Weilai and Xin Shiji is put on hold as the secret research is done and the construction stage is started. All resources are put toward the creation of the airship, which is projected to be completed in six months. Research on dropping bombs from airships begins beta testing. Airships are used to attack German compounds in China before the army attacks the German-controlled cities. An offer is made to Portugal to buy back Macau. Hong Kong is left alone.
    • Italian Diplomacy: China is offered a military and economic alliance and promises China support if it is ever attacked
    • Brazilian Diplomacy: It tells China not to listen to Italy. It also tells Italy it has already join its side.
    • Chinese Diplomacy: Declines due to its aggression towards Switzerland.
    • Italian Diplomacy: Italy promises to cease all aggression toward Switzerland and to cede its colony of Eritrea to China
    • That is implausible. Try Brazil-Portugal or Britain.
    • Brazilian Diplomacy: It asks Italy to have it. And in exchange, it will allow peace talks between the two sides.
    • Italian Diplomacy: Italy agrees.
    • Japanese Diplomacy: Japan owns Macau, purchased from Brazil-Portugal.
    • Chinese Diplomacy: Same offer to Japan. (Did Germany just delete my edit?)
  • Venezuela: Venezuelan President Gabriel, noticing rising tensions between major powers; declares neutrality in any kind of conflict; her criticizes both sides for formation of major alliances; he praises Brazilian efforts to reach peace. A civilian founding of oil marks a controversial buy by the president's family which buys 3/4 of the discovered oil and is then owned by the government, the other 1/4 is open to industries and businesses. Free trade with the U.S brings cars, and wealthy families are now common to have cars and such. The nation's military grows in the navy, becoming a force to be reckoned with. They deny Japan's request for their word naval exercise, politely stating they do not have the time. Roads are made better. Cities have a lack of man power due to more people moving to rural areas where there are more farms.
  • Germany: Germany completes the U-1 and the remaining Wasteritans, and lays down the bodies of the next class of four new Wasertitans. The Imperial German Air Corp is created with a force of three squadrons of fighter scout planes and plans are asked to be drawn by a private board of directors to create a new biplane fighter.Germany rejects Italy's offer and requests that Austria-Hungary do the same to ensure peace in their two empires.
  • Australia Mounts a large gun onto an airship for the first time, demonstrating its ability as a fighting machine. The New Zealand Military is slowly amalgamated into the Australian one, with a new fleet of Airships to be built in New Zealand. Research begins into an armoured car, similar to the recent Japanese designs. The world's first feature film, The Story of the Kelly Gang is screened in Melbourne. The Parliament of New Zealand is integrated into the Australian Parliament.
    • Brazilian Diplomacy: It asks Australia to join the Allies, which is led by Brazil.
    • Australian Diplomacy: Australia agrees to join, but must warn the Allies that, as a British Dominion, Australia's foreign policy decisions can be overruled by Britain.
  • PEACE TALKS BETWEEN THE ALLIES AND CENTRAL POWERS BEGINS. GO TO THE TALK PAGE.

1907.0

Civilians in the Balkans begin protesting against Ottoman rule, and it appears that the Balkan Alliance supports their goals.

Thought I'd have a jab at this: A mob in Los Angeles kills two black men. Later in the month, black civilians open fire on another white mob, resulting in the deaths of twelve black people and thirteen white people. A similar racial riot breaks out in Detroit in February, and Houston against Mexicans in March.

  • Brazil: Continues the peace talks. However, they still struggle to strike a deal. The discovery of oil in the Brazilian coast marks an era of economic prosperity for the country. Brazilian colonies in Africa begin to wield important value, as raw materials are feeding Brazilian industries.
  • China: Industrialization is continuing; most major cities are industrialized. Due to industrial growth, domestic oil production is needed. The prospecting and drilling of oil begins in the Gobi Desert. Southern Mongolia is invaded and annexed. Companies continue to grow. Construction is not complete, but the airship is deemed operable. It is given the name the Long (Dragon). A marvel of engineering, it will have much more space than a typical Zeppelin. By using a 80% Hypothetical Gas-Oxygen atmosphere, much more of the blimp will be used. When finished, it will be capable of holding bombs, guns, soldiers, and even other airships. At the moment, it can only fly and, besides a reinforced hull, is not fitted for war. It is filled with hydrogen until a non-flammable gas can be used in conjunction with oxygen. Every afternoon, though, it is used to drop propaganda in Beijing and surrounding areas. There is a jump of military sign ups. Construction begins on ships again. Research begins on fitting guns on airships, dropping troops from the sky, boats for carrying airships, non-flammable lighter-than-air gases, and machine guns. Using bombs for airships is deemed a good strategy. Airship production is increased.</span>
  • 'Slow down. No way anyone is having flying fortresses for some time.</span> Also, all airships used Hydrogen, not helium, at this time.'
    • British Diplomacy: Britain demands that China return the southern part of Mongolia back to Mongolia or suffer numerous sanctions that will affect China's economy.
    • Chinese Diplomacy: Would like to remind Britain that Mongolia was part of China originally. It will also like to remind Britain that, as a member and founder of the PTU, it can put enormous sanctions on Britain's economy. However, China will give Mongolia some monetary compensation.
    • British Diplomacy: Britain would like to remind China that Britain has a vastly larger economy than China's and such sanctions by Britain would hurt vastly more. Britain would also like to remind China that Mongolia was part of the Qing Dynasty, and seeing that the majority of Mongolians favored independence, it should be independent rather than be part or China.
    • Chinese Diplomacy: Reminds Britain that Mongolia is still independent and the area being annexed is desert and useless to the Mongolians. Any sanction by Britain can easily be supplemented by the PTU.
    • British Diplomacy: Why would you annex a desert when no valuable resources are there? And we would like to remind you that, just because you are a member of the PTU does not mean you can decide what it does.
    • Chinese Diplomacy: The desert has oil that China can use, but Mongolia cannot. Even though members of the PTU can decide what they do, there is a very good chance they will support another member.
    • Italian Diplomacy: Italy requests that Britain back down on the hostility towards China.
    • Brazilian Diplomacy: It also encourages Britain to back down.
  • Britain: Research in all military departments are conducted. The parliament agrees to have a referendum on Egypt within a year. The British government joins the International Alliance and asks for closer ties with Japan.
  • Japan: Japan supports China's right to southern Mongolia, as it was originally part of the Qing Empire, and after tired of asking, sends troops to annex the remainder of Sakhalin. Meanwhile, infrastructure improvement continues, and the Japanese aircraft are updated to include a cabin and a seat belt. Research into bombers (wooden plane ones) comes to an near end, and will end next turn. Meanwhile, the JIN navy sends naval vessels to attack the Somalian pirates. Research into Zeppelins begins.
    • Chinese Diplomacy: Offers Japan its research on Zeppelins in exchange for its help in the research of lighter-than-air gases.
    • Japanese Diplomacy: Japan agrees to China's offer.
    • As Lx pointed out, you don't own any part of Sakhalin. Japan got it after the Russo-Japanese War, which you didn't fight, so you don't own it.
  • France: Industrialization continues, and the military continues to be improved. Research on airplanes begins. We ask for trade agreements with Japan and China.
    • Chinese Diplomacy: Accepts.
  • Australia: Launches the Australasian Antarctic Expedition. An airship carrying Australian and New Zealander Explorers lands on the Antarctic coast. The aim is to map the interior, and potentially reach the pole. It is lead by Henry Mawson. A small submarine is completed by the navy.
  • Italy: Italy begins research on a submarine. Although the ship will only be able to stay submerged for four hours, Italy has high hopes. King Vincenzo I establishes the Milan Military Academy to train young military officers and to research new technology. Three capitals are established: Rome, the political capital, Milan, the military capital, and Florence, the economic capital. The wall along the French border is half complete and has gained the nickname, l'istrice (The Porcupine). Vincenzo I creates the League of Italian Maidens and The League of Italian Men. The groups main points are that women should have as many children as possible and single women should work in factories, while men should be soldiers and work in factories. All children above 14 have to register for their respective group.
    • It goes up there. Genius! (@L'Istrice)
    • It's called an editing mistake. No need to get so hostile about it.
    • Perhaps you misunderstood me. I meant: "It goes up there. Genius!" As in a compliment, because I laughed at his L'Istrice, and thought it was genius, so thus "genius."
    • Ah. Well, now I feel bad
    • No worries. I would have thought the same thing.
  • Switzerland: Fortifications and dirigibles continue to be built. The Geneve Is launched this year, an airship more impressive than those of the "Helvetica" class. a few civilian air clubs are contracted to create an aeroplane that will work in alpine conditions. Due to recent events with Italy, Switzerland affirms that despite any action they take, they are to be considered neutral in any war, and actions such as the current building of defenses and the air force are completely defensive.
  • Spain: Spain releases a statement saying if Italy attacks France and/or Switzerland, they will ensure Italy is wiped off the map and any and all reminders it ever existed destroyed. It also warns Mexico not to attack the USA, or for Germany to ally with Italy, or they will suffer similar fates. The Spanish military (which is still huge from the dictatorship) makes preparations for war against Italy and anyone else who dare threaten global security. Spanish raids on Somalian pirate strongholds begin, resulting in the devastation of several Somalian fishing villages. Further research reveals that Somalia is actually Italian territory, giving Spain a reason to raid the villages.
    • Italian Response: Italy calls for Spain to halt its raids on Italian Somaliland or Italy will retaliate.
    • Spanish Response: Well then, YOU stop encouraging and sponsoring the pirates!
    • Italian Response: Italy has done no such thing. Either Spain stops its raids or it faces war.
    • Spanish Response: Spain will stop its raids on Somalian ports, but we will still take aggressive action against the pirates. Even YOU can't be happy with them!
  • United States: Sends National Guards to control Mobs. A new president is inaugurated, that is isolationist. The military grows. The Panama Canal Work is Continued. Tensions flare on Mexican Border.
  • Must you be implausible?
  • Airplanes are still military things, and they don't even regard it as good, and no one even thought of commercial airplanes.
  • Okay, I rescind that part...

1907.5

  • Italy: Construction of L'istrice is completed. The Italian submarine prototype was tested and performed adequately enough to be put into production. Italy hopes to make five by the end of the year. The new submarines are dubbed La balena MK I's (The Whale). Italy begins building up its navy in preparation for conflict with Spain and the battleship Milano is dispatched to the coast of Italian Somaliland to deal with any Spanish attacks. Italy moves 250,000 men to the island of Sardinia and 75,000 men to Sicily. Italy begins the development of of a new cannon and a new bolt action rifle.
    • Italian Diplomacy: Italy asks Germany for aid in a possible conflict with Spain and in return, Italy will aid Germany in any conflict of its own.
  • China: Oil drilling is doing well (Pun very much intended). Roads are being built. Government is funding the buying of automobiles. Many factories are being built as more people join the middle class. Some companies have reached national levels. Joint research has not made any progress, but a mysterious gs as coming from oil wells may be promising. Meanwhile, the Long continues to be prepped for war. China's army becomes the largest in the world. The Xin Wellai and Xin Shiji are halfway done. A cruiser and two destroyers are made. Using bombs for airships is fully researched and airships are fitted with the capability to drop bombs, size limitations impairs use to one at a time. Meanwhile, the following begin beta-testing: fitting guns on airships and dropping troops from the sky. Research continues on launching airships from boats and machine guns. Research starts on airships with much more capacity. The Chinese Air Force is created. The fleet of first generation of airships has been created. China offers more money for Macau to Japan. (Can someone update the map?)
    • Italian Diplomacy: Italy offers China a position in the FIS. In return, Italy offers financial aid and military technology
    • Japanese Diplomacy: Japan agrees to China's request.
    • British Diplomacy: Britain will tolerate China's annexation as long as they take no further actions against surrounding nations.
  • Brazil: It continues the peace talks. They tell China NOT to accept Italy's offer. They begin to mass produce Zeppelins to be used as transport for cities. They begin researching submarines to improve Brazil's navy. Due to the rich potential of the north, industries begin to harness resources from the region. In Congo, it is now considered the country's best colony. Brazilians are encouraged to move to the African colonies to make a living.
  • Spain: Spain stops its raids on Somalian fishing villages, but continues cracking down on pirates. Spain maintains its stance on Italy: if they attack France, they will be purged from existence brutally and mercilessly! Same goes for Italy's allies. Major preparations for war with Italy and its allies are made. Spain asks for support from its allies in case Italy declares war on either France or Spain.
    • Italian Diplomacy: Italy requests that the attacks only take place on the sea.
  • Australia: The Antarctic expedition is going well and has mapped a substantial part of Antarctica around Commonwealth bay. A base has been established on Macquarie Island. Australia asks Austria-Hungary for a trade agreement. Australia also continues building up Southeast New Guinea against potential threats from Germany in the North and Japan in the south.
  • Ethiopia: The Ethiopian nation requests to join the Brazilian's Alliance in exchange for advisors in training the Royal Ethiopian Army, and increased trade. Many of Ethiopia's advisors begin considering industrialization to keep the pace of the European powers.
  • Venezuela: Seeing tensions between Brazil's alliance and Italy, and being allied with Brazil, Venezuela declares their full support for Brazil and its alliance, but will join a war separately, if it even occurs. The navy continues growing, being a powerful navy, nearly unmatched in the Western Hemisphere, only third to Brazil and the United States navy. They finish building half a dozen submarines, and deploy them, the current president, a former navy soldier, encourages technology to counteract against submarines, and any kind of flying crafts, he also encourages more major warships to be built. Oil is sold to foreign companies, but some of it is used for the army and navy.
  • Japan: Japan ends its research on bombers, and begins to build an prototype. Infrastructure improvement ends. Japan continues to build up the Japanese Air Force, and the Yamato begins to go under repairs and upgrades. With the recent technology, Japan begins to build an prototype airship.
  • Ottoman Empire: (taking over for a week) After half a year worth of fighting, the high command decides to retreat from the Balkans, but causing chaos on their way back. The Army is kept mobilized and is trained as hard as ever and made into a cracking military force. Training continues towards the end of the year and troops are trained on how to use machine guns effectively. The Ottoman Empire stops asking France for an alliance and instead focuses on improving relations in the Federation of Independent States (as they accept the offer to join) and continues to expand the armed forces. A baby boom and an immigration boom begins, mainly from the north and east as fleeing Muslims arrive into the empire. Research into the top secret "barrel" (a secret invention) continues in topmost secrecy. A large Armored Zeppelin Corps begins construction and its asks Germany to help it build a better aircraft for the military, in return for the technique to fit machine guns onto an aircraft. Some Ottoman oil seekers wonder the deserts after listening to a rumour that there was oil in the area, and they are not disappointed as they eventually manage to find oil in the more northern regions, mainly Mesopotamia. This is start an oil boom in the years to come and industry is promoted as the oil could become a very big business indeed.
  • Britain: The referendum on Egyptian independence is held, and the majority vote for independence. King Fuad I is inaugurated as the first king of modern Egypt. Britain will maintain its military forces in the country until it is capable of defending itself. The Suez Canal Zone and the Sinai Peninsula will remain under British protection and authority until a future date.

1908.0

Ottoman forces begin to withdraw from the Balkans, and the surrounding nations divide the lost territory amongst themselves. They now start to make advances towards the Golden Horn and Constantinople.

Players: From now on, Random Number Generators must be done by an unbiased mod in any event that requires them.

  • Spain: Spanish attacks on Somalian pirates are limited to the sea. However, Spain maintains its stance on Italy and its allies: attack France or any of its allies and die. Spanish dirigibles start regular passenger services between Madrid and Barcelona, and another one between Madrid and Paris.
    • No airship transport until the 1920s. No airplane transport until the 1930s.
  • Ethiopia: Ethiopia begins to place its military forces along Ethiopia's borders with Italian Eritrea and Italian Geledi. Knowing their past relations with Italy from their war 12 years ago, they do not want to risk another invasion by the Italians.
  • Austria-Hungary: Austria takes Germany's advice and does not accept Italy's offer. The trade agreement from Australia is authorized. The military continues to expand and the government keeps the peace in Bosnia. Also, learning of the agreement between Serbia and Brazil (I just read it, LOL), the peacekeeping missions in Bosnia and the Serbian border increase, delaying the naval expansion.
    • British Diplomacy: With the rising tension in the world, Britain asks Austria-Hungary for an alliance.
  • Ottoman Empire: The Army training has yielded significant success and now every division is equipped with dozens of machine guns. The already mobilized army is rushed to Constantinople (get it right, people) and the Golden Horn and take up defensive positions. Any offensive action by the League will result is total war and the destruction of their armies. It also continues to expand the armed forces, and better equipment is sent to the front line every so often. A baby and immigration boom continues. Research into the top secret "barrel" (a secret invention) continues in topmost secrecy. A large Armored Zeppelin Corps continues construction and its asks Germany to help it build a better aircraft for the military, in return for the technique to fit machine guns onto an aircraft. Industry is set up in Mesopotamia as more oil is discovered in the region and this is helping create more employment as well as increase production of oil significantly. To ensure that the oil can get to where its needed quickly, more railroads will be laid down and industrial areas will be better connected with cities. This is expected to take around five years and will also provide jobs for immigrants from outside the empire.
  • Constantinople was only referred to as Istanbul in the 1920s, not before. Even the Turks called it Constantinople.
  • Mexico begins trafficking weapons to the locals in the Balkans.
    • You seem new here. Do you have a registered user?
  • Italy: King Vincenzo I announces The Five Year Plan. The plan will make Italy more self-sufficient and more industrialized. Sicily is to become Italy's agricultural base and the bread basket of Italy. The Italian Air Force Academy is established on the island of Sardinia and all flight technology will be developed there. A military base is established in the Alps as well as in Sicily. Should Italy ever be invaded the king will be moved to either one. The northern half of the country is to become largely industrialized. A new currency is introduced, getting rid of the paper currency. The new coin currency is worth its weight in silver and gold. This was done to avoid future economic problems. Italy begins building a prototype armored car dubbed the Testudo. Railroads are built across the nation and a bridge to Sicily is half completed.
    • Paper currency was equivalent to a set value of Gold at this time. Removing it would be redundant and pointless.
    • Didn't know that. Sorry
    • Don't worry about it.
  • Switzerland: very crude aeroplanes begin to be built by private clubs that can endure the Alpine conditions. Most of them are very crude, but a few work. The most successful ones are those based in the lower regions near Geneva. So far none of the planes has been able to survive in the mountains except for short periods of flight. None has been built that can be based in the mountains. Dirigibles of both classes continue to be built. The Swiss defense system is finished this year, which takes advantage of the natural terrain to create a sturdy defensive barrier.
  • France: Industrialization continues, and defenses on the German and Italian borders continue to be built up. Massive forts are being set up, and a new defensive line is being adapted to where forts are going to be built to be large enough to hold heavy artillery, to keep out advancing armies. To fight off close attackers, machine guns are being placed near the openings, however there aren't many machine guns in each fort due to a lack of interest by military commanders.
  • Brazil: It continues the peace talks. They agree to Ethiopia's request. They promise Italian Eritrea if they succeed. Zeppelins are becoming a popular form of transport across the city. Submarines become mass-produced. The population continues to grow as soaring birthrates and emigration to Brazilian colonies begin to take effect. Catholicism is spread amongst the native population.

Starting early June, an adaptable civilian version of the Long begins daily trips between Beijing and Tokyo. The Long is halfway fitted. The Xin Wellai and Xin Shiji are almost complete. Dropping troops from the sky has completed testing. Research on arming airships is almost done. Research continues on launching airships from boats, airships with much more capacity, and machine guns. Research begins on a high-speed rail.
  • Again, no passenger airships until the 1920s.
  • The first commercial passenger Zeppelin was in 1909.
  • All right, I concede that, but it is incredibly implausible that China would have one after only one year of development, not to mention it certainly would not have daily trips.
  • Australia: Douglas Mawson, leader of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, names the region New Australia. The Australian government discusses the transfer of sovereignty of parts of Antarctica to Australia (OTL Australian Antarctic territory and new Zealand Antarctic Territory). High-quality merino wool and meat is sent to Austria-Hungary. Australia begins construction of a small fleet of blimps and torpedo-boats.

  • Attention, everyone: I, Scrawland Scribblescratch, hereby offer to do Random.orgs and Random Number and List Generators because I am not playing for anyone or any nation. If MP approves, I will do it.
    • Accepted
  • Australia Asks Britain for sovereignty over an area roughly corresponding with OTL Australian Antarctic Territory and Ross Dependency. Torpedo boats are completed and visit the British in Singapore, before being based in New Guinea. A new order, the Order of Australia is established, for loyal Australian subjects who do meritorious things for the British Empire. Douglas Mawson is immediately inducted as the first member. An Australian diplomat serves kangaroo meat to Austro-Hungarian heir, Franz Ferdinand in the hope of expanding the overseas kangaroo meat demand.
  • China: The unknown gas has a 90% chance of being lighter than air. The Long is fitted at 75%. Construction on the Xin Wellai and Xin Shiji is finished, as well as one cruiser and three destroyers. Research on arming airships begins alpha testing to identify new problems. The military assembles by El Paso and the Navy by Havana. The Arizona and New Mexico become States. Planes and Cars are improved. This Year, a business man releases the Model T which is the world's cheapest car but still a month's wages.
  • Japan: The prototype bomber is launched, and safely lands, but still needs improvements. The research into lighter-than-air vessels ends, and plans to build the first one will begin on next turn. The Hiroshima is released from the repair docks, and is now sent to the Yellow Sea while the Kyoto comes in for repairs. Hyundai releases the first version of the Elantra, while Toyota releases the Camry, both suck at this point, but it's a car.
  • Chile: Education and health increasing his budget, while new professors and engineers are brought for teach in Chile.

  • All right, who messed up the formatting!?
  • No idea. Who did it? Fess up? I hate it when this happens!
  • I think it was RMains, but I'm not here to point fingers.

He begins a massive social reform program that begins to eradicate extreme poverty, low education, corruption, etc. He also focuses on greatly developing the military, navy, and the air force. President Salazar has high hopes for a strong Peru with an important presence in South America. Peru is currently searching for allies in North America and Europe. It also searches specifically for allies on the WESTERN side of South America.
  • China: The unknown gas is lighter than air. Research begins on harvesting. The Long is completely fitted. Research on arming planes continues alpha testing. Research continues on launching airships from boats and machine guns. Research on bigger airships and high-speed rail begins beta testing. In anticipation, a strait rail begins construction to connect rural interior and urban coastal China. Automobile ownership is at 15%. The first Chinese automaker is established.

The government ignores most of the border issues and works harder on the army expansion.
  • Chile: Reconstruction of Arequipa and other cities, now Chileans, damaged during the war with Peru, finally is completed. The railroads now connect to the provinces with the rest of the country. Armed forces are improved.
  • Britain: The government, disappointed with Austria's reluctance to join an alliance, continues to improve relations with Bulgaria and Greece. However, they do accept Austria's non-aggression pact request. The first prototype battleship is finally laid down, and should be completed in a year or so. The air force is expanded, and now has about 45 planes, most of them without any armaments.

1909.5

The Balkan Alliance invades the Golden Horn, but because of Ottoman defenses they are temporary forced back. Germany's research program moves on ahead, researching airships, planes, u-boats, and battleships.

  • Peru: due to his popularity, President Salazar's social reforms were met with open arms among the Peruvians. His development of the armed forces, although going for only half a year, have been generally successful. The President has ordered part of the new army to invade the neighboring country of Ecuador. In other news, Peru has decided to research new military technologies. The Salazar regime seems to be in full swing.
  • Ethiopia: Ethiopia begins to dedicate itself to Westernization, using whatever means necessary in order to better understand European values. This of course is seen as a threat to power by the local powers, who begin to protest in Gonder.
  • Venezuela: Outraged by Peru's invasion of innocent, they condemn Peru's decision, calling them "reckless, uncalled for, unjustified, and causing needless deaths." The president ask their Brazilian ally, to allow 100,000 men to be stationed in the Amazons temporarily, to possibly aid Ecuador. They ask the United States to allow their navy to pass through the Panama Canal, they demand that Peru stop their invasion. Or suffer the consequences.
    • Peruvian Diplomacy: Peru does not wish for a member of the Latin American Congress to attack another member. President Salazar will call off the invasion if Venezuela agrees to allow Peru to take what has already been taken (two provinces in the north). --- That was me. I just forgot to sign in :D AwesomePeruvian 18:45, April 9, 2012 (UTC)
    • Peruvian Diplomacy: Peru has withdrawn its troops but has taken the two provinces in Ecuador's south region. We are stopping further invasion in the sole interest of NOT fighting with another member of the Latin American Congress.
    • Venezuelan Diplomacy: Venezuela, will allow Peru to hold the two provinces.
    • Peruvian Diplomacy: President Salazar commends Venezuela and hopes for friendly relations with the country.
  • China: Industrialization continues in interior China. The election campaigns are in full swing. Research on harvesting the now named gas, Hai (Chinese name for Helium, OTL) continues. Research on arming airships begins beta testing. Research continues on launching airships from boats and machine guns. Research finishes on the next generation of airships. Please note that Greece and Bulgaria never declared war on Italy. Greek and Bulgarian forces make some headway into the Golden Horn.

  • France: The military begins another advance into Italian territory, and asks for Brazil, Portugal and Peru to send troops to aid in the fighting. Paratroopers prove effective. After testing, the Xin Shiji and all military aid is withdrawn back to China. Research continues on launching airships from boats. The first machine guns are equipped to all land and naval forces. They may be used to compensate for bad accuracy in fighters. The first high-speed train connects interior and coastal China. Automobile ownership is at 20%. Two more cruisers and seven destroyers are built since 1908.5. Five Battleships, five Cruisers, 15 Destroyers in the navy.
    • No high speed rail until the 1950s at the earliest.
    • The first high speed rail was in 1903.
    • For one thing, that was in Germany, not developing China, and for another, such a thing was not possible for passenger trains for many years, not until after World War Two. The first possible passenger high speed rail was made in 1945.
    • Darn Edit Conflicts.
    • To quote Wikipedia:
"The modern high-speed rail era started 6 October 1903. An electrical railcar from Siemens & Halske sped away at 203 km/h (126 mph) on the military railway track between Marienfeld and Zossen in Germany. It showed that high-speed rail was possible, and that the future was electrical. For scheduled trains, however, such a speed was still more than 60 years away."
    • So he could make a fast train, just not a high speed train. '
    • Such a train would be useless. There would be almost no point to making it except to show off, and the rest of the world is preoccupied with a war at the moment.
    • Well, the whole point of the train was to connect China, which is really big. Just like the continental railroad.
    • At this point of time, the train would not be suited for passenger travel. The train would be uncontrollable enough that the conductors wouldn't be able to stop it reliably. Ordinary steam engines are your best bet here for now.
    • In that case, there's still the rail, just with steam trains.
    • And about 20% auto ownership, TOTAL ASB for China.
    • Yes. NO RAIL!

More dirigibles of both classes are constructed.
