The Treaty of Santiago, was signed May 8, 1804 by the victorious United States of America on one hand, and the defeated Haiti on the other. The treaty declared an end to the Haitian-American War, and the establishment of the Hispaniola Territory.


  • The Republic of Haiti becomes the property of the United States and is organized into the Hispaniola Territory.
  • All Haitians will recongize the rule of the United States, the President of the United States, and the Constitution of the United States.
  • Reconstruction of Hispaniola will be handled by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
