The Treaty of Neustadt was the document signed in 1790 that ended war between Scandinavia and the Hamburgian alliance, which consisted of Hamburg, Bavaria-Germany, and Oldenburg. The treaty was signed in the Hamburgian city of Neustadt.

Hamburgian Terms[]

The opening terms of the Duchy of Hamburg are as follows:

  • Schleswig, Gotland, Bornholm, and the Shetland islands will be ceded to Hamburg. The Faroe Islands shall be ceded to Oldenburg.
  • Scandinavia will recognize Hamburgs possession of Schleswig, Holstein, Gotland, Bornholm the Faroes, the Shetlands, and New Rugia. Likewise, Scandinavia will recognize Oldenburgs possession of the Faroe islands.
  • Hamburg will recognize Scandinavian possession of the north island of the New Rugian islands. Likewise, Scandinavia will recognize Hamburg possession of the South Island. The north island shall be known as "New Zealand" and the south as "New Rugia". Both nations shall respect the rights of the native Maori, and will not inhibit trade between islands should they choose so.
  • Scandinavia will pay the equivalent of 750,000 Reichstalers to the allied belligerents. (Can be adjusted)

The terms, as agreed upon by the belligerents, are as follows:

  1. Schleswig will be partitioned, with the Danish-majority north remaining in the Scandinavian sphere, and the German south being ceded and annexed by the County of Holstein (to be named Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein).
  2. The Faroe Islands will be ceded to the Duchy of Oldenburg, who will administer them as they see fit.
  3. All territorial exchanges will be recognized by all parties.
  4. Hamburg will recognize Scandinavian possession of the north island of the New Rugian islands. Likewise, Scandinavia will recognize Hamburg possession of the South Island. The north island shall be known as "New Zealand" and the south as "New Rugia". Both nations shall respect the rights of the native Maori, and will not inhibit trade between islands should they choose so.
  5. Scandinavia will pay the equivalent of 750,000 Reichstalers to the allied belligerents.
  6. Karl von Hamburg will wed Scandinavian crown princess Ingrid Bjelbo Kristodottir, to ferment better ties between the nations.
