Tom Brady in 2008
|Born||August 3, 1977|
San Mateo, California
Thomas Edward Patrick "Tom" Brady (born August 3, 1977) is an American actor, screenwriter and model, whose career was launched by roles in 1990's teen movies, including Boys Will Be Boys (1997) and American Pie (1999). He has done multiple action roles as well as serious roles, and won an Oscar for Best Actor for his work in 2008's Client.
Early Life and TV Career
Thomas Edward Patrick Brady was born in 1977 to Tom Sr. and Galynn and raised in an Irish Catholic family in San Mateo, California with several gifted athletes for brothers. He regularly attended San Francisco 49ers games in the 1980's and describes himself as a "lifelong Niner and Pirate." He graduated from Junipero Serra High School, where he played football and baseball, in 1995.
During high school, Brady appeared in supporting roles in a number of sitcoms and his parents regularly drove him to Los Angeles for film shoots. His first credited appearance was as "Thomas Brady" in a 1993 episode of Nova Scotia, where he played Alex Cross's nephew visiting from California. He also appeared in four episodes of The Murphys as daughter Alexandra's jock boyfriend, in a few episodes of All in the Family as a recurring but nameless street hockey player who accidentally injures several main characters, and appeared in Raising River as a football player at the high school who takes an interest in River.
Brady's big break came, however by appearing in Boys Will Be Boys in 1997 playing the now-iconic role of Ralph, and appeared in 1999's American Pie as Oz.
Not wanting to be typecast as a teen actor, Brady next signed on to appear in Jerry Patterson's The Watchers, where he played a US Army Ranger under the command of Barry Obama's character in England during the English Adventure. To prepare for the role, Brady worked out rigorously and gained 25 pounds of muscle. He was considered for the role of Peter Parker for 2001's Spiderman, but was passed on in favor of Toby Maguire. He was similarly auditioned for the part of Batman for Batman Begins in 2003, but was passed over for James Marsden. Brady was again snubbed for a franchise role when he was surprisingly not picked for the part of James Bond in 2006's Casino Royale, a role many believed he was the favorite for.
Brady made his name as an action movie actor in the 2000's, appearing in Cellular (2003), Station (2004), Protection (2006), and starred as Lieutenant James T. Kirk in the 2009 Star Trek reboot. Brady appeared in the hugely successful 2010 film Inception as Dom Cobb, the main character.
Brady has also appeared in a number of more serious films - the 2004 film adaptation of Hubris; in 2007, he was in Gridiron, where he played a spoiled, selfish and self destructive NFL quarterback alongside Anne Hathaway, Ray Liotta and Liam Neeson. In 2008, he won a Best Actor Academy Award for his role in Client, where he played a lawyer assigned to defend Charles de Gaulle during the Guttendorp Hearings. In 2008, he also appeared with Jake Gyllenhaal in White River, a drama about two US Marshals sent to investigate a murder in rural Montana and their personal demons emerging throughout the proceedings.
