  • 1 June- Iroquois Confederacy is founded by Hiawatha.
  • 30 September- The Iroquois invade the Ohio River Valley


  • 5 May- The First Iroquois-Algonquin War begins.


  • 30 October- The First Iroquois-Algonquin War officially ends. The Algonquians are pushed past the Hudson River north of Lenapehoking


  • 3 August- Christopher Columbus departs from Castilian Palos de la Frontera
  • 12 October- Columbus lands in San Salvador


  • 30 October- Columbus leads a second expedition of nineteen ships to the New World, carrying a large group of settlers. The group settles at La Isabela, Hispaniola. Thousands of natives are enslaved and used as forced labor to build the town or shipped back to Spain
  • 24 November- a small gold mine is established in Cuba, worked for the Spanish crown by slaves


  • 5 January- Permanent trade networks are established between Spain and the Caribbean
  • 1 August- Columbus returns to Spain aboard a trading vessel


  • 1 January- The Treaty of Londinium was signed, ending the war and uniting the kingdoms of the British Isles
  • 28 March- The British government funds a five ship voyage leaving from Plymouth to the New World with the intentions of creating a colony
  • 26 April- The British expedition lands in the New World. The settlement they founded is known as St. John’s
  • 13 May- The British government launches a large-scale advertising campaign for voyages to the New World
  • 14 June- Upset by his practices and his lack of significant gold income, the crown tasks Columbus with making a third journey to explore the area to the south of the Caribbean
  • 15 July- Columbus arrives in Central America and leads 500 men into Peru
  • 10 September- Columbus returns to Hispaniola with a large amount of gold


  • 3 April- A second group of three hundred British colonists and 80 soldiers departs for the settlement of St. John’s
  • 4 May- After losing course the second British expedition lands far to the south and establishes Halifax
  • 7 May- Contact is made with the British and the Mi'kmaq natives of Jipugtug


  • 5 March- Vasco Núñez de Balboa abandons his new found career of farming on Hispaniola and leads a small expedition into Darien
  • 28 March- Balboa is defeated by natives and forced to flee back to Hispaniola
  • 20 May- Christopher Columbus dies peacefully in Spain, surrounded by wealth and success. His son Diego becomes Governor of the Indies
  • 10 September- A second expedition into Darien is successful. The city of Santa María la Antigua del Darién is founded


  • 19 May- An independent British charter lands in Long Bay, establishing the settlement of Myrtle Beach


  • The Chesapeake Bay is explored by the British
  • 29 May- A large group of settlers seeking religious freedom from central Europe immigrate to Boston


  • 1 March- A large force is organized to invade the wealthy territory first hinted at by Columbus. Francisco Pizarro, a young sailor, volunteers to lead the force south into Peru from Santa Maria


  • 5 June- Balboa enters the Pacific Ocean from Darien


  • 24 April- A Spanish colony is established on Florida


  • 1 April- Herman Cortez founds the Spanish town of Veracruz


  • 1 January- All of the North American coast south of the Chesapeake Bay is declared the Colony of Constantia by the British
  • 3 March- Massive British emigration into Constantia begins, lured by the promises of wealth built on tobacco and cotton


  • 13 August- The Aztec Empire is conquered by the Spanish


  • 3 July- The Viceroyalty of New Spain is declared


  • 4 May- Boston is founded by British settlers
  • 1 September- The settlement of Savanna is founded by the British in Constantia


  • 30 May- English settlers arrive in the Chesapeake Bay, founding St. Mary's City
  • 30 July- Vilcabamba is captured by the Spanish. The Incan Empire officially falls
  • 9 December- The former Incan Empire becomes the Viceroyalty of Peru under Viceroy Francisco Pizarro, governing from Lima. The area to the north becomes the Viceroyalty of New Grenada ruled from Santa Fe de Bogotá


  • 1 March- Santa Fe de Nuevo México is founded by the Spanish


  • 1 June- 300 French settlers establish Louisbourg on Cape-Breton Island


  • 1 February- George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore is granted a charter to the Chesapeake Bay by the British monarchy
  • 16 June- Calvert sponsors a voyage of 200 colonies and 50 soldiers to the Chesapeake Bay. They name their site Annapolis. The early settlement becomes very dependent on the British settlements in the area and the natives but soon begins developing farms


  • The Second Russo-Turkish War begins


  • 15 September- Feldmarschall Ernst Gideon Freiherr von Laudon of Austria leads an army to besiege an Ottoman Turkish force in the fortress of Belgrade
  • 8 October- The city of Belgrade is taken by the besieging Austrian forces


  • 1 September- Austrian and Russian forces push south meeting Ottoman resistance near Demirköy. Plagued by disease and lack of supplies the Russian and Austrian armies retreat
  • 5 November- The Russo-Turkish War officially ends. The region of Yedisan and Bessarabia is ceded to Russia. Parts of southern Serbia and Bosnia are returned to the Ottoman Empire
