Timeline (Russian Rise)

1901. Skobelev becomes the commander of the Russian forces in East Asia.
1905. Russia emerges as the victorious side in the Russo-Japanese War, despite the official ceasefire. The Russian Revolution of 1905 succeeds in most of its goals. The Tsar is forced to draft a Constitution, which turns Russia into a semi-constitutional monarchy. The Bolsheviks come to an agreement with the Mensheviks. Along with other left-wing movements they form the Socialist Alliance. The right wing fails to unite into a single political front. The Liberal Democratic Alliance is formed as a coalition of the center-right and center-left parties.
1906.The Imperial Duma is elected. The LDA has the most seats, and gain control of the newly elected government, while the Socialist Alliance comes second. Sergey Muromstev, the leader of the LDA becomes the Russian premier.
1907. The British agree to Russian demands and Afghanistan becomes independent. The Duma launches a limited national industrialization program.
1909. Skobelev becomes War Minister.

1914. First World War begins with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.
1917. The March Revolution takes place, overthrowing the monarchy. A Provisional government is established. Fighting stops temprarily on the Eastern Front between Russian and German troops. The October Revolution topples the incompetent Provisional Government. Soviet Socialist Republics are set up in parts of the former Russian Empire. Poland and Finland manage to wrangle independence.
1918. The USSR is founded. Lenin becomes the first President of the USSR, with Lev Kamenev as his vice-President. A major economic and infrastructural program to bosst the the country is launched.

1926. Lenin dies. He is replaced by Kamenev who appoints Grigory Zinoviev as his vice-President.

1935. Nikolai Bukharin comes to power. The Soviet Armed Forces undergo a complete upheaval. The Red Army is renamed into the Soviet Army, with the Air Force and Navy following suit. A ten-year non-aggression pact is signed between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.
1939. The Second World War begins in March, when Nazi Germany invades Poland. After two months of phoney war, in May, the Germans invade the Low countries (Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg), France. Norway and Denmark. Fascist Spain and Italy also attack France. Japan attack on Pearl Harbor means the USA enters the war on the Allies side.

1940. In March, Operation Sealion, the Nazi invasion of Great Britain begins.
1941. In June, Operation Barbarossa, the Nazi invasion of the USSR begins.
1943. The epic battle of Kiev, the turning point of the entire war, ends in a Soviet victory.
1945. In April, Germany surrenders eight days after Hitler commits sucide. The Manhattan Project bears fruit. In August, the USSR declares war on Imperial Japan. Two atomic bombs are dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
1947. In August, the Soviet Union detonates its first atomic bomb.

1950. The Korean War begins.
1954. Alexander Kosygin becomes Soviet President.
1956. Sputnik, the worlds first artificial satellite is launched by the Soviet Union.
1958. The U-2 Crisis.

1960. Yur Gagarin becomes the first man in space.
1962. The Cuban Missile Crisis brings the two superpowers to the brink of nuclear war.

1980. The Moscow Olympics are successfully hosted. The invasion of Afghanistan begins following the death of over 40 Soviet "peacekeeping" forces in an ambush.
1983. Mikhail Gorbachev becomes the Soviet President.
1989. The CPSU loses its legal monopoly over the USSR.

1990. Boris Yeltsin is elected Russias leader.
1991. The April Coup results in the seccessionist republics (Georgia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) declaring independence, and the other republics forming the CES, in effect endind the USSR.
