Around 1405, the year that the war over succession ended in the Majapahit Empire, Sufi traders introduced Islam into the Hindu-Malayan empires and for about the next century the southern half of Luzon and the islands south of it were subject to the various Muslim sultanates of Borneo. During this period, the Japanese established a trading post at Aparri and maintained a loose sway over northern Luzon. During the reign of Sultan Bolkiah in 1485 to 1521, the Sultanate of Brunei decided to break the Dynasty of Tondo's monopoly in the China trade by attacking Tondo and establishing the state of Selurong (now Manila) as a Bruneian satellite-state. A new dynasty under the Islamized Rajah Salalila was also established to challenge the House of Lakandula in Tondo. Islam was further strengthened by the arrival to the Philippines of traders and proselytizers from Malaysia and Indonesia. The multiple states competing over the limited territory and people of the islands simplified Spanish colonization by allowing its conquistadors to effectively employ a strategy of divide and conquer for rapid conquest. Parts of the Philippine Islands were known to Europeans before the 1521 Spanish expedition around the world led by Portuguese-born Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who were not the first Europeans in the Philippines.[clarification needed] Magellan landed on the island called Homonhon, claiming the islands he saw for Spain, and naming them Islas de San Lázaro. He established friendly relations with some of the local leaders especially with Rajah Humabon and converted some of them to Roman Catholicism. In the Philippines, they explored many islands including the island of Mactan. However, Magellan was killed during the Battle of Mactan against the datu Lapu-Lapu. Over the next several decades, other Spanish expeditions were dispatched to the islands. In 1543, Ruy López de Villalobos led an expedition to the islands and gave the name Las Islas Filipinas (after Philip II of Spain) to the islands of Samar and Leyte. The name was extended to the entire archipelago in the twentieth century. A late 17th-century manuscript by Gaspar de San Agustin from the Archive of the Indies, depicting López de Legazpi's conquest of the Philippines. European colonization began in earnest when Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi arrived from Mexico in 1565 and formed the first European settlements in Cebu. Beginning with just five ships and five hundred men accompanied by Augustinian monks, and further strengthened in 1567 by two hundred soldiers, he was able to repel the Portuguese and create the foundations for the colonization of the Archipelago. In 1571, the Spanish occupied the kingdoms of Maynila and Tondo and established Manila as the capital of the Spanish East Indies.
Prologue: The Gift of Bannag
In the late 14th century, the population of Irraya started to increase and due to that the town of Irraya started to expand and flourish that it absorbed its nearby towns, Irraya started to look more as a progressive town which also enticed and attracted settlers from Tondo and the other parts of the Malay Archipelago. On 1405, the Japanese establish a trading port on the Island of Selurong in the towns of Camalaniugan and Bugey (this trading port will be known as Aparri on OTL) and due to that the Japanese gained access to the rich town of Irraya which continued to expand, the town of Irraya was also liked by the indian traders and for this reason Irraya was called as the Gift of Bannag the river where in Irraya is in. The City State of Irraya prospered more due to the trade with the Japanese and the people of Irraya, the City State of Irraya submitted as a Subordinate of the Kingdom of Tondo to the South. Due to the Seizure of the the Kingdom of Tondo to the Bruneians on 1485, the remaining scions of the Kings of Tondo fled ruled the area around Irraya and made Irraya as their capital clinged to their title the King of the Tagalogs, the house of Tondo in Irraya was not able to regain Tondo back from the Bruneians, the Bruneians later gave Tondo as a fief to the House of Lontok, a descendant of the House of Tondo via the Female line due to the marriage of Dayang Kaylangitan to Gat Lontok, the son of Bolkiah, the House of Tondo-Irraya and the House of Lontok both claimed to be the rightful King of the Tagalogs, due to the Tondo being attacked by the King of Brunei, the Kingdom of Kaboloan also became briefly independent. The main reason why Sultan Bolkiah conquered Tondo was in order to gain the trade to China and also to subjugate Sulu completely whose direct line passed to Layla Mekanai who married Sultan Bolkiah, one of Sultan Bolkiah's sons, Lontok was married to Dayang Kaylangitan, the daughter of the defeated Gambang, the previous ruler of Tondo. However, the Dominance of the Bruneians did not last, an agnatic descendant of the Sulu Sultans Muizzul-Mutawadi-in who declared himself as the Sultan of Sulu rebelled against the Bruneians, and defeated and expelled the Bruneian forces in Zamboanga, Sulu and Basilan but Palawan remained under Bruneian rule. Legaspi and the Destruction of the Bruneian Empire The Kings of Sulu had just recovered and were ruled by a native dynasty from Sulu and the Kingdom of Irraya conquered parts that are in anarchy in Eastern Central Selurong and the area of Baler. Parts of the Philippine Islands were known to Europeans before the 1521 Spanish expedition around the world led by Portuguese-born Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who were not the first Europeans in the Philippines.Magellan landed on the island called Homonhon, claiming the islands he saw for Spain, and naming them Islas de San Lázaro. When Miguel Lopez de Legazpi came to Manila Bay in May 1571, Lakandula was there to meet him. The two first met on May 17, the day after Legazpi's arrival on the bay, when Lakandula and Rajah Matanda came aboard Legazpi's ship to discuss terms with him. Part of these discussions specified that the Spanish would not land in Tondo, and would instead land in Maynila, which had been burned to the ground the year before. Joaquin suggests that Lakandula would "have seen that Legaspi was being practical. Burned down and emptied, Maynila would be a better spot to fortify, being more strategic. On May 18, 1571 Rajah Sulayman, Rajah Matanda, and Lakan Dula acknowledged the sovereignty of Spain over the islands and proclaimed themselves the vassals of Spain. On the following day, May 19, Legazpi landed in Manila and took ceremonial possession of the land in the presence of Soliman, Matanda and Lakandula. In this time, Miguel Lopez de Legaspi visited Irraya, but King Magat, knowing what he did in the South of Selurong the Igorot and Irrayan troops of King Magat expelled Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and sent him out of Irraya, the people of Irraya had been known to have been strong against the Spanish just like the people of Sulu and the fledgling Kingdom of Mindanao now, King Magat's Igorot and Irrayan troops were also able to defeat the Visayan and Spanish troops that tried to raid in the Southern part of the Kingdom of Irraya but Miguel Lopez de Legaspi annexed the Kingdom of Kaboloan which became independent after the destruction of Tondo by the Bolkiahs but the mountainous parts of Kaboloan became the territory of Irraya and for this reason King Magat became known as a renegade infidel to the Spanish. Lakandula helped make a house for Legaspi, and a fort for the Spanish, giving them fourteen pieces of artillery and twelve jars of gunpowder - a gift much appreciated by the Spanish, who were running low on ammunition. Soon after, Lakandula and his sones became baptized as Catholics. The Spanish had Manila's artillery and arquebuses discharged in honor of the ceremony. Banaw Lakandula took on the name Don Carlos Lacandola after Charles I of Spain. It wasn't long before Spanish power in Luzon was challenged. A month later, Tarik Sulayman of Macabebe attacked Manila, convincing Rajah Sulayman to join the battle against Legazpi. Macabebe and Sulayman's forces were defeated, and the Datu of Macabebe was killed in what history would record as the Battle of Bangkusay. (The similarity of names has caused some confusion between these two leaders, but Tarik Sulayman and Rajah Sulayman were different individuals - one survived the battle, and the other did not.) Lakandula had refused to join Macabebe and Sulayman's coalition, but among the prisoners taken by the Spanish after the battle were two of his nephews and a number of his officers. When questioned, they said that they had been on the scene only as observers, not as combatants. Legazpi let them go to demonstrate his confidence in Lakandula. Later that year, Legaspi sent Martin de Goiti to spread Spanish rule to the peoples of what are now the provinces of Bulacan and Pampanga, most notably the territories of Lubao and Betis. He sent Lakandula and Sulayman with him, because, as one account has it, "if so great a chief should go with him, when the Pampangos saw that he had given obedience to His Majesty, they would give it also. These boats were Joangas, which, as Dery points out, was a sea craft common in Maritime Southeast Asia capable of carrying 300 men each. Lakandula's role as ruler of Tondo was then taken up by his grandnephew, and Rajah Soliman's adopted son, Agustin de Legazpi. Legaspi also established a colony in the Island of Borneo in the Eastern part Sabah which caused a brief war with Brunei which resulted in the annexation of Sabah and Palawan to Spain and later the christianization of Palawan and Sabah, Sulu never helped Brunei because Sulu was once annexed by the Bruneians and Sulu is against Brunei ruling Palawan. Agustin de Legazpi, who was married to the cousin of Sultan Bolkiah, would lead Tondo as a territory under Spanish rule until he rose up against them in 1587-1588 Revolt of the Lakans, and was deposed, Agustin de Legaspi decided to amongst the Mangyans in the Island of Mindoro and he became their supreme ruler but still claimed the title Lakan or the title King of the Tagalogs. An Increase in Population In the 1480's, a man named Ragasa, a man from Tondo decided to settle in Siraya area in the Island of Tapangga, he was defiant of the traditions of the area he married a Siraya woman on his thirties just after settling in the Siraya and fathered many children with his wife and she refused to follow the Sirayan customs of remaining childless until a certain age due to her husband's advice and due to his husband being raised in another country, another woman in Siraya had convinced her Chinese husband to raise their children as Sirayans not as Chinese and settle in Siraya, the some Sirayans followed the example of these two couples and for this reason the Shamans of Siraya were losing their power and their control on the Sirayan people. Due to some couples in Siraya not following the Shamans the population doubled, the couples that did not follow the tradition were expelled and created a new community that increases and increases in population as time goes by and due to this the population of Tapanga starts to double, some people from the other parts of the Malay archipelago followed Ragasa to Tapangga. In 1500, Irraya conquered the Batan Islands, Orchid Island and a tip of Tapanga named Taiwan and invited settlers from Tondo that were against the Bolkiah rule in Tondo to settle Tapanga and after a decade the settlers decided to overthrow the Irrayan conquerors due to the harshness of their rule but Irraya on the indigenous people of the tip of Tapanga and the settlers had intermarried with the people of Tapanga on the tip of Tapanga causing the erosion of the values of the people on the tip of Tapanga which caused the increase of the population in Tapanga, the shamans were angry at the people but a new order is taking shape in Tapanga and this will change the direction of the history of this chaotic Island, the Batan Islands and the Orchid Island were retained by Irraya.
The establishment of the Spanish Administration
On 1590, the Spanish were weakened by the Unification of Italy by the Medici but the Spanish, in 1590 the Spanish made a a way to administer the new Colony of the Philippines it is by dividing it to regions which were ruled by, they divided it to regions Occupied Luzon/Selurong will be named as Nueva Castilla in Spain but it is also called as Luzon by the Spanish, the areas in Mindanao Occupied by the Spanish will be named as Carolia because it was named after King Charles of Spain by the Spanish, Palawan will be named Paragoa, while Visayas will just be named as Visayas, Sabah will be called Nueva Aragon and Guam will just be called as Guam and all of these regions are ruled by Alcalde Mayor and the subregions are ruled by Distrito Mayor, recently the Northern parts of Mindanao are occupied by the Spanish due to the conquistadors were able to subjugate the tribes and annex the statelets although the Mountain tribes remain vigilant of the Spanish, these areas were incorporated to Carolia, the Sultans of Maguindanao knew nothing about this and what has happened. Maguindanao only knew about the Spanish colonizing nearby areas in 1590 when the Spanish had reached their borders. The Spanish had already making their Catholic prosetylization since the time of Magellan's time but some people made revolts against the Spanish prosetylizing their lands and this resulted in blood baths in towns and rebellions. However, the Spanish were able to make the people of the areas except of the mountainous areas in the areas that they had explored at least nominally catholic. In 1590, the state established by the Solimans in Mindoro known as Lesser Selurong lost its lowlands to the Spanish and it remains a principality that rules mountain tribes, this meant that it will be nothing but a petty mountain backward isolated pagan state. The Japanese continue their trade in Irraya due to them having a trading port in the delta of the Bannag River, however the Japanese trade and the trade is weakening and the trading post has been taken over by the local people so more Chinese merchants were invited to trade in Irraya at this point the Kingdom of Middag starts to flourish due to the trade with Ryukyu, The Kingdom of Middag has became a hub between Irraya, Japan and the other Eastern Asian states and now where the Japanese are trading more directly, in this point the Muslims in Irraya have become a large minority group in Irraya who were permitted to prosetylize in Irraya. At this point in time, the Tausugs or the Suluan and the Maguindanaoans were raiding the people of the Spanish colony of the Philippines and enslaving and some of the people in Irraya were also raiding the Spanish areas near the border with Irraya for heads or for the Slaves and aside from that the Spanish would also experience periodical raids from the Japanese and Chinese pirates and also from the Dutch who also wanted control of the Islands and this was very difficult for the Spanish colonizers to deal with but the states of Irraya and Sulu themselves were not lifting any finger nor warring with the Spanish colonial regime in the Spanish occupied parts of the Archipelago and due to this the administrators in the border towns are very paranoid about what is happening but at this point the Manila-Alcapulco galleon trade is booming.
1595, the King of Irraya, Magat II has an ambition to regain all the lost Tagalog lands to the Spanish and regain it completely, this was only his ambition and dream and he had no drive to pursue it because Irraya had other fishes to catch, however the other two renegade countries are planning the same thing and that is destroying the Spanish hold on what is rightfully theirs and regain their own rightful lands, however they were thinking of how would they regain the lands stolen from them by the Spanish. On 1596, knowing how unstable is the situation in Filipinas, a pirate named Dimhong decided to create a Kingdom on Nueva Castilla and attack the Spanish and also a native named Andres Ladia decided to gather people to liberate Nueva Castilla for Irraya, Dimhong tried to conquer Manila but due to Manila being Fortified it was quite hard and he was expelled just right after he was defeated but later he decided to conquer Kaboloan's lowlands which are under Nueva Castilla, at first he thought he could establish a Kingdom there but the Spanish had known what is happening so the Spanish authorities from Samtoy and Zambales were able to defeat Dimhong and due to the situation, later on 1596 Andres Ladia decided to rebel with the backing of Magat II, however this would also mean that Magat II would also seize lands from Nueva Castilla but Magat II banned Christianity in the lands seized by Andres Ladia and Magat II which are Samtoy and Kaboloan plains which resulted in the defeat of the rebellion and war. A Spanish Official in Nueva Castilla said: "That pesky renegade country!" Magat II had decided that it will not be worth to regain those lands because the people in those lands are no longer loyal to them and had changed their allegiance and felt betrayed and decided that he would only defend the land that he has and will no longer try to regain the lands that were earlier gained by the Spanish and decided to welcome Andres Ladia and his rebel survivors in his lands in exchange for them renouncing the Christian faith forever and also due to what happened the people who chose not to convert in Nueva Castilla and hated the new laws in Nueva Castilla migrated to to the lands of Irraya and for that reason the population of Nueva Castilla became lesser and lesser and the population of Irraya became higher.
The New Traders
On 1614, the Italians started to trade with the Irrayans but after a few years on 1616 after Magat II learned about the Italian traders, Magat II made a condition on the trade and it is that the Italian Priests should not be proseletize their religion in Irraya or else they will be expelled or killed, the Italian traders complied with the conditions of the King that the priest are not allowed to prosetylize their religion on Irraya. The Italians also traded the Sulu and Maguindanao with similar results but that did not deter the Italian traders on Irraya and instead they respected the wishes of the countries, however at the later point the Irrayans, Suluans, Maguindanaoans that raid the Spanish colony of Filipinas would use the arms traded from the Italians and also it would be used in the later conflicts with the Spanish Administration of the Colony of Filipinas and the Three Native States. Sultans Abdul of Sulu and Kudarat of Maguindanao have similar feelings as Magat II against Christians, however they have different strategies against them and this was due to the Spanish conquering their surrounding territories as well, however. they have different experiences as countries as well and they found out that the Spanish and the Italians are not good friends so the three nations found an ally on the newly united Italy. The Three nations began to be very open to the trade with Italians provided that there will be no prosetylization of the Catholic religion in their domains. Aside from being hostile to the Catholics they did not like the Protestant religion brought by the dutch so they suppress it as well when it arrived in their country via the dutch traders.. On 1618, the guards of the King of Irraya, Magat II also told the dutch traders to stop having the Protestant Missionaries from entering Irraya. The Dutch traders complied at the conditions of the King in order for them to remain trading in Irraya and later the Dutch traders also learned how to trade with Irraya peacefully later on but they decided that the trade should be done via the Dutch East India Company instead. Another port would be also known in Irraya and it is known as Baler in the east of the Mahabe Pagotan Mountains of Irraya, the Mahabe Pagotan is the mountain range where the Agtas and the Bugkalot or Ilongots live. The Port town of Baler became richer because the traders entered the town because the port town of Kamalanyugan which is the entrance to Irraya is now very much congested in order to trade with the Kingdom of Irraya, the Italian traders also traded in the new port city of Baler. Aside from the arrival of the Italian and Dutch Traders, Irraya's population had surged to about two million because of the migration of the families in Nueva Castilla that rebelled earlier and converted back to the native faith (which now incorporating the personality cult of the King of Irraya) or converted to Islam.
The History of a raider and the royal marriage
On 1620 One Headhunter named Balweg and Slave trader from the Mountains of Irraya decided that raiding the Christians in Filipinas due to the wealth of the Spanish using the guns that were from Italy would be so good and very worthwhile. Balweg gathered an army from the mountains of Irraya in order to raid Macabebe, Calompite and Buracan, the people who joined his army are strong men who wanted loot like silver and gold just like Balweg and they wanted heads from the Spanish Occupied lands. When Balweg and his men entered first entered a Spanish controlled village, he was able to capture the Women and Children of the Village and bring them back to Irraya as slaves and Expel the men, he collected the heads of the officials of the village and stole gold and silver as well. In the later times, the Spanish higher officials learned about what happened and employed more civil guards in the border towns but they can't defeat Balweg and his men due to Balweg having good strategies in raiding the lands he wanted to raid. Balweg said to his mates in raiding the Spanish controlled villages: "I enjoy attacking Spanish controlled villages ... due to their unlimited riches and unlimited heads to raid from" And due to his raids many people were afraid in the Spanish controlled Villages in the border that many of the people migrated inland to avoid head hunters. There is also a time that Balweg and his mates were able to raid Intramuros or Manila itself. They looted Intramuros then also looted the nearby cities of Intramuros and they looked invincible because of the arms that he obtained from the trade from Italy and when Balweg came back he was very rich and due to that he never stopped being a raider to the Spanish controled villages with his men bringing back loot from the Spanish controlled villages. The other Headhunters followed the example of Balweg in Irraya and the same time the raiders from Sulu were also raiding the coasts of Filipinas and carried slaves to Sulu. There was a raider to Nueva Castilla, Palawan and the other parts of Filipinas from Sulu named Abdul and carried many slaves that he got from the villages he raided, Abdul raided Intramuros at the same time as Balweg and Abdul also gain loot in Intramuros due to the raids being successful but the two werent able to destroy and sack the city of Intramuros completely due to its walls being strong, they just looted the city. Both the raids of Irrayans and Suluans caused the Spanish authorities to be afraid of Irrayan slave traders and headhunters and the Suluan traiders although it only took one year for Intramuros to recover from the attack on the city but this meant that the Spanish authorities would be more cautious and very alert of the raiders. Later, Balweg also raided the town of Macabebe again which has a population which is very loyal to the Spanish which resulted in a very long brief war and chaos between the raiders and the population of Macabebe fought against the raiders and did not surrender to the raiders that wanted to take a loot of the resources of the town and also want to sell some of their women as slaves to the pagan irrayans, however the Spanish Soldiers were able to be reinforced but the raiders are very strong and dangerous, however, the raiders gave up but they also brought back loot from Macabebe and chose to leave to another town to raid and instead they raided villages near Buracan and Calompite which brought riches and some slaves and some heads for the leader of the raiders who is Balweg and he was very much happy raiding and obtaining Spanish riches because it gave him prestige and wealth. And because of these raids, the Spanish would build towers which have guards which watches around for the Irrayan and the Sulu raiders which would raid the Spanish colony of Filipinas. In this point in time on 1620 Yummo, the son of Mandaya, the Crown Prince of Irraya, married a Korean Princess named Lee Hana who is the relative of the King of Joseon, it was done to start a tie with Joseon and when Lee Hana arrived and the former lover of Yummo fetched Lee Hana to the City of Irraya. Lee Hana was described as a very beautiful princess by Prince Yumo of Irraya and because of that Yummo sent back a message to the King of Joseon thanking that the marriage pushed through. The real people who had power in Irraya and kept the state strong are the people of Irraya and the nobles and the minister of Irraya who govern Irraya while the King also have powers but he more has powers in the law and the military. Attempted Kidnapping and the marriage of the Korean Princess On 1618, the marriage proposal to the Korean Princess, from Irraya came to the Joseon court and the council and King Gwanghaegun of Joseon decided to accept the marriage proposal and it was hard to choose a princess to be married to the Irrayan Prince, Yummo. King Gwanghaegun sent a letter to Prince Mandaya and King Magat II I am King Gwanghaegun, I am flattered of your asking of a Joseon Princess to marry your Prince Yummo, I will send you a princess, she is a relative of mine. I will pick a fine princess, I promise you King Magat II. -King Gwanghaegun of Joseon After the letter arrived, King Magat II sent a letter again and wrote to King Gwanghaegun. The Princess you should pick should be very fertile and very beautiful. -Magat II Due to what King Magat II said, Gwanghaegun picked a very beautiful Princess. King Gwanghaegun picked Princess Hana to marry Prince Yummo (but she is not of the main royal line but still related) and sent her to an expedition to Irraya but the expedition has been difficult because of the winds but the ship remained afloat. The Ship's captain decided to remain in Tapanga for a time and at that time, a noble from Middag attempted to raid and kidnap the Princess from Irraya but the attempt was just an attempt and the strongmen from the retinue defeated the men of the Middag noble who tried to kidnap Princess Hana so the ship was able to leave Tapanga and safely arrive in the port of Kamalanyugan on 1620, where in the former lover of Prince Yumo was waiting in order to pick Princess Hana of Joseon. On 1620 Yummo, the son of Mandaya, the Crown Prince of Irraya, married Lee Hana who is the relative of the King of Joseon, it was done to start a tie with Joseon and when Lee Hana arrived and the former lover of Yummo fetched Lee Hana to the City of Irraya. Lee Hana was described as a very beautiful princess by Prince Yumo of Irraya and because of that Yummo sent back a message to the King of Joseon thanking that the marriage pushed through and that they are happy about Lee Hana being able to arrive in Irraya. I am Thanking you King Gwanghaegun of Joseon because of the Princess you sent to Irraya to marry me, I find her very beautiful and lovely. -Prince Yummo of Irraya
Mandaya's wise rule
On 1621, Magat II suffered a heart attack which caused Mandaya to rise as the King or Ari of Irraya, and also claiming as Titular Lakan or the King of the Tagalogs. Mandaya was a very nice king, he changed his mind he would discourage the italians from recruiting any mercenaries from Irraya he would also continue discourage the missionaries of the Italian churches like his father. He decided to harbor the people who are also persecuted by the Inquisitors in Nueva Castilla and aside from that the Spanish control of Nueva Castilla is weakening due to the Spanish being prevented by the Italians from fully ruling Filipinas or the Spanish East Indies and because of that the Spanish rule in Filipinas is shaky that other powers would like a piece of it but the Irrayans are not trying to get any of Nueva Castilla because of their loyalty to the Spanish and due to that the people of Irraya were against annexing Nueva Castilla since the only way they can rule it is if they stamped out the Catholicism in Nueva Castilla which is impossible to happen. The people of Nueva Castilla do remain loyal to the Spanish as much as possible and due to that the people of Irraya disliked them very much and would not like to unite with them and aside from that the Irrayan raiders who want heads and slaves still frequently raid Nueva Castilla and also Balweg is continuing his raids because of the fortune that it gives him since he is greedy. The Italian missionaries would also try to woo the bishops of Filipinas in trying to side with the Italians and have the Filipinas revolt against the Spaniards but the Italian missionaries always failed because the people of Filipinas are very loyal to the Spanish that the Italians who tried to woo the Filipino bishops were expelled from Filipinas. In the meantime, the rival claimant of the Kingdom of Irraya to the King of Tagalogs title, the Lesser Selurong Kingdom was very much isolated that it is only state that is maintained due to the hostility of the tribes in Mindoro but they are very weak to claim back the lowlands. On 1640, King Mandaya decided to focus on trading with the countries of Dai Viet, Siam and the remaining parts of Champa and at this time more people are converting to Islam as well in Irraya, these three countries remain hostile to the idea of Christianity as well and due to that these countries preferred to trade with each other but the trade of Arms to Irraya by the Italians is continuing and they are using the arms of the Italians to raid.
The War of Mindanao
On 1630, Sultan Kudarat of the Maguindanao sultanate did not like the situation of Mindanao beng divided between Carolia and Maguindanao so he decided that annexing Carolia would be a good thing and it would restore the people of Carolia to the true faith. Sultan Kudarat and Sultan Abdul of Sulu started a war against the Spanish in Carolia on 1631. The war erupted on the borders of Carolia and Maguindanao and the people of Carolia instead supported the Spanish colonizers because a majority of the people of Carolia are settled by the Spanish into Carolia from Visayas and the most of the native people of Carolia which are the Manobos did not convert although the Butuanons did convert, so an expulsion would be needed if Sultan Kudarat would be able to conquer Carolia. Since at this point in time the Irrayans did not want anything to do with Nueva Castilla, the cause of Sultan Kudarat is weak and defeated easily that Sultan Kudarat was forced to sue peace with the Spanish administrators of Carolia, the same was done by Abdul of Sulu. In this time, Palawan's/Paragoa's trade with China was booming, however, the route of the Manila Galleons was hard to navigate because the Italians who are hostile to the Spanish having shops in Irraya and the other renegade countries are an obstacle to the Galleons themselves and also because the Irrayan raiders are now looting the galleons themselves. The loss of Sabah was hard for Brunei and Sabah at this point is mostly Christian now and now named as Nueva Aragon, this is also a booming colony with Christian Converts and in the later decades Chinese refugees from Qing that also had migrated to Nueva Aragon as well.
The Pirates and Gold
Due to Mandaya's politics the relations between the Irrayans and the Italians soured, however the trade of Irraya with the Italians continued, Mandaya invited the Chams who were devastated by the Vietnamese invasions and raids which made Irraya more islamized, Yummo told his father Mandaya to improve the relationship with the Italians, the ministers who de facto ruled Irraya told that as well to Mandaya. On 1665, Yummo rose to the throne of Irraya which restored the better relationship of Irraya with Italy, Yummo had many sons from his Korean wife, Lee Hana, a Joseon Princess which also established a link between Joseon and Irraya and at this time the gold was discovered in Irraya, in the area where the raiders came from, Irraya would use this gold to exchange for firearms from Italy and it also went to Joseon due to the ties of Joseon to Irraya in order to fund its defense from the Japanese pirates who infest the Joseon's shores. In the meantime in Tapanga the Italians are starting to advance and make trading ports in Tapanga which made the Kingdom of Middag to entertain the Italians more, Tapanga is not really united and the Kingdom of Middag has a small territory in Tapanga and that caused the Italians to exploit the situation and use that as a base to help the Southern Ming against the Northern Chinese dynasty and also for the Italians to use it as a hub of commerce with the Kyushu Kingdom, the Southern Chinese Kingdom, Irraya and the Tokugawa Shogunate and due to that the trade prospered more and more. In the same time, the Colony of the Philippines, now with weak ties with the Spanish due to the Spanish being blocked by the Italians and the Irrayan raiders. The sinister plot of the Dutch is being planned, and the plot is to annex the Spanish East Indies to the Dutch colonial empire and make it a part of the Dutch East Indies but rather the Italians are the strongest in the East Indies..however the Filipino Priests remain loyal to the Spanish. In the winter of 1667-1668 , the Dutch were able to occupy Manila with the help of Irrayan troops that secretly helped them expel the Spanish from the Spanish East Indies and the Italian ships that defeated the Spanish and blocked them from accessing the Spanish East Indies. The Dutch remained tolerant of Catholicism upon the initial years of occupation but later on in 1675, the Dutch put Protestant priests on the already Catholic Churches, this was not positively received in the Philippines and this caused revolt. The Three renegade countries of Irraya, Maguindanao and Sulu did nothing since for them they believe that the people of Filipinas are different from them and deserve this kind of treatment, however the country of Lesser Selurong was annilihated by the dutch invaders. The Dutch East India Company were able to gain and utilize the rich gold mines of the formerly Spanish East Indies and the Spanish shamefully accepted their defeat the Dutch gain of the former Spanish East Indies on 1669, Guam also became a part of the Dutch East Indies as well. The divisions of the Philippines remained the same under the dutch administration but the Protestantization of the former Spanish East Indies has now started. The Italians welcomed the new change in the ownership of the Philippines and were happy that the pesky Spanish are now out of that archipelago and the Italians had started to make ports in the former Spanish East Indies as well. On 1673, Guam was given to the Italians as a token of appreciation of their help in the Dutch acquiring the Philippines. Guam, Porto Elisabetta, HongKong and Tapanga became the new bases for the Italians on their trading empire in the East, however, the Dutch who now own the Philippines are also contending as well, however the Italians had already controled the trades and the trading hubs. At this point the power landscape of the Maritime South East Asia is now different now that the Spanish are gone completely. The Immediate and later Consequences of the loss of the Philippines from the Spanish Due to the Spanish losing the Philippines in 1669 to the Dutch, the Philippines itself became influenced by the Dutch who now own the Philippines and the Italians who owned the ports. The major languages in Irraya, Sulu and Maguindanao, in Irraya, the language is Irrayan(Think of Ibanag and Kapampangan merged into one language) and Kaboloan/Ibaloy(in the mountainous parts of Kaboloan annexed by Irraya), the language of Sulu is Tausug and the language of Maguindanao is Maguindanao. In the Philippines now owned by the dutch the native languages in the colony Philippines are Samtoy, Kumintang, Bisayan and Butuanon, however the colonial language of the Philippines is Chavacano which is now transformed due to Italian and Dutch influence and due to that the old Chavacano language became the Ciavaccano language or Filipina Patois. the Dutch also settled Javanese settlers to their new colony the Philippines especially in the Manila area and the Italians also put Italian settlers in the Philippines in the Italian trading posts in the Colony of the Philippines causing the Chavacano language to evolve into the later Ciavaccano language causing the Colony Philippines now a part of the Dutch East Indies to become a mixed Italian-Dutch colony even if it is only ruled by the Dutch or ruled under the Netherlands. The Dutch ruled Philippines and have resettled it with Muslims starting in the time of 1669 and the dutch have started to replace the catholic priests in the Philippines with Dutch protestant/calvinist priests causing the Philippines to transform into a Protestant-Muslim dominated region from a Catholic one. On the early part of the Philippines protestantization the Catholics rebelled against the Dutch but the rebellions are small because most of the people of the Philippines felt liberated from the abusive friars that abused their powers and the people loved the new dutch priests because the new dutch priests did not abuse their power and it is permitted for the priests to marry so many men in the Philippines were able to be priests as well after the Dutch seizure of the Philippines. First Half of Yummo's reign due to Mandaya's politics the relations between the Irrayans and the Italians soured, however the trade of Irraya with the Italians continued, Mandaya invited the Chams who were devastated by the Vietnamese invasions and raids which made Irraya more islamized and aside from that it made the relationship between Irraya and the Champa, Yummo told his father Mandaya to improve the relationship with the Italians, the ministers who de facto ruled Irraya told that as well to Mandaya. On 1665, Yummo rose to the throne of Irraya which restored the better relationship of Irraya with Italy, Yummo had many sons from his Korean wife, Lee Hana, a Joseon Princess which also established a link between Joseon and Irraya and at this time the gold was discovered in Irraya, in the area where the raiders came from, Irraya would use this gold to exchange for firearms from Italy and it also went to Joseon due to the ties of Joseon to Irraya in order to fund its defense from the Japanese pirates who infest the Joseon's shores and for that reason Joseon is very strong and was able to repel the Wakou invaders from Japan which is now under chaos, however, Joseon was able to thrive even if it is attacked by the Wakou invaders, they were also able to make infrastructures such as towers to protect the coastal towns of Joseon thanks to the gold given by Irraya to Joseon. However, the towers did not deter the Wakou from attacking Joseon from time to time even if the coastal towns are heavily guarded, it just caused the gold from Irraya to be used up in the defense of Joseon, but Irraya got in exchange is the goods from Joseon, the Wakou disappeared from the seas of Joseon completely on the 1700 which made the King of Joseon very happy. Yummo is a man of his early old age with his wife who is from Korea, Yummo rejoiced when the Philippines was gained by the dutch and the Spanish King has given up on the Philippines completely but things would be different now since the Dutch had started the protestantization of the Philippines, the Dutch would not care about the three renegade countries to make them protectorates under the yoke of the dutch, the Dutch will leave these three countries alone. On 1672, Yummo devised a promulgation to reform the already chaotic Irrayan Script which is based on Kawi and its later incarnation in the Archipelago named Kulitan/Baybayin(Japan has Hentaigana, Irraya has an equivalent on this) which has irregular characters which causes frequent misunderstanding in the Kingdom in the written word, the reform was easily implemented in Irraya and the reform is introducing the proper Kawi script to Irraya, some of the gold that was discovered in the mountains of Irraya was used in improving the infrastructure in Irraya aside from being given to Joseon from time to time, the palaces of Irraya are remnicent to that of Japan, Korea, Bali and Java. It was in this time when the Kakawin literature from Java became popular in Irraya due to the similarities of Irrayan to Javanese which enrichened the literature in Irraya, however, there are also ties with Joseon so Korean literature was also apreciated on Irraya, at this point in time the population in Irraya had swollen up to to four million and Sulu had three million people and Maguindanao had four million people just like Irraya, due to Irraya being very prosperous at this time the population just becomes more and more many that the cities start to be more congested although it is just on the Bannag river basin(Bannag is the longest river in Irraya) and Upper Pampanga river areas and the Upper Agno river areas, the towns surrounding did not just have more population and they are more into farming which feeds the populous towns of Irraya. it was due to the discovery of Gold and other precious materials in the Mountainous parts of Irraya on the mid 17th century and aside from being rich in Gold, the mountains of Irraya were rich in Iron which was traded to other countries, the Kingdom of Irraya continued to prosper and in the same time and for that reason Irraya became one of the remaining independent countries in the Maritime South East Asia and many people from the Malay world migrated to Irraya and also the birthrate of Irraya was high for a while making the population surge to 4 million due to the introduction of the crop of Potato to Irraya which made its population surge to high levels. In the reign of Yummo the progress was realized because of Yummo being very open to change and also because of the alliance of Irraya to Joseon and due to Irraya being allied to Joseon, Joseon was open and still not isolated to the wh outside world but would it last a longer time but how about about Nippon which is now plagued with chaos, which was brought about by the end of the Tokugawa regime which brought Japan into Chaos for more than one century but it also changed the direction of the history of Japan, which is now divided into factions but it also meant that Irraya would be out of the Japanese sphere of influence until a certain time when Japan reunified and when Japan reunified they drained the natural resources of Irraya due to the Japanese companies that later entered Irraya when Japan reunified but at this point the Italian and the Joseon traders were more numerous in Irraya. The Nueva Aragon, which is a part of the Philippines is now reconnected to the areas of Kalimantan which were under the Dutch and a lot of Northern Chinese refugees migrated there, the religious background of the Philippines that after the Protestantization of the Philippines. In the same time, Tapanga was also benefiting from what has happened to the Philippines which was seized by the Dutch, many areas of Tapanga became Italian ports due to the winning of the Dutch in the war against the Spanish and aside from that, Tapanga became a Chinese refugee area but it was not receptive because it had a higher population and the Kingdom of Middag which was the only Kingdom in Tapanga and it also became a trading hub which engages trade with Irraya, Ryukyu and Japan which is now in chaos because of what happened to the Tokugawa dynasty but Tapanga was not immune to the colonial powers trying to abuse it compared to its surrounding countries.
During the time of Yummo on 1680, the City of Irraya went on a huge construction which made Irraya a more prosperous city, the city had a huge shrine intended for Nanolay/Batala who is identified as Allah or God by the people that worship the Judeo-Christian faith and aside from that the Capital City of Irraya had a population of 600 thousand which made it a very much known area, the buildings of that area were remnicent of the ones made in Bali, Nepal and Japan and due to that Irraya was one of the known populous cities in Asia. In the meantime, the Philippines or rather the new colony of the Dutch, which is now known as Filippijnen to the Dutch and new Administrative divisions were made for the Philippines, the Nueva Castilla Province is divided into sub-provices which are; -Costa Nord/Costa Norte(NoordKust) -Macabebe -Sambalia -Manila -Kumintang -Bikol In the same time the Visayas Province was divided into sub provinces as well -Panay -Sugbu -Samar-Leyte The Dutch were now able to exploit the mineral wealth of their newly acquired colony and this supplied the Dutch in their future wars and the welfare of their countries In OTL it is known as region 1
However, due to the Dutch invasion, the Netherlands became a rich country and were able to exploit the natural resources of the Philippine colony, the Country of Irraya decided not to interfere in the rule of the Dutch in the rest of the Island, the same happened to Sulu and Maguindanao, however, the population of Irraya has quite overflowed to the New Castile colony, the other part of the Island of Luzon. Yummo's views are known to be very supportive of the change in Irraya and the influences of the cultural flow from Java to Irraya and he died in 1701. However, the Maguindanao and Sulu have skirmishes on the borders against the Dutch due to disputed areas but Irraya had more peaceful relations with the Dutch.. However, in the later rule of Yummo, the Kingdom of Irraya was not able to deflect the Wokou from Japan which were trying to loot the ships containing gold from Irraya which were smuggled to make more attacks at Joseon, the King of Irraya felt very powerless about that. The successor of Yummo, Mandaya II was very cunning in his way of dealing with the Japanese pirates but he can't really repel the Japanese pirates just push them out of the area of Irraya but they came back when the defenses were weakened so they decided to make ways to control the japanese pirates from trying to steal the gold given to Joseon and for that reason, the riches the acquired from Irraya caused the Wokou to be richer and try to establish colonies in Taiwan.
The reign of Terror of the Wokou
Mandaya II wanted to improve his relationship with the neighboring countries and so before he rose to the throne, during the rule of his grandfather, Mandaya I, he married a Javanese Princess whose Kingdom is basically a vassal of the Dutch she travelled a long way just to enter the country of Irraya, she needed to pass the Dutch in order to marry Mandaya and so his policies were to make the relationship with the Dutch more friendly as possible. So when Mandaya II became the King on 1701 he made steps to improve the relationship of Irraya to the Dutch. However, Irraya’s focus is its continued allegiance with the Kingdom of Joseon to the North which it values because of the shared historical ties between the two countries, Mandaya II is happy that Irraya is still has very popular trading ports in its territories and also because it controls the flow of trade from South East Asia to China. The people of Irraya remain to have good ties with the people of Java even if the priority of the King of Irraya is to please the Kingdom of Joseon which is plagued by the Wokou which has plagued the seas of both Irraya and Joseon since the time the Tokugawa Shogunate’s destruction which allowed the Wokou to return to the seas ravaging Japan’s neighbors and succesfully planting their bases in East Asia and South East Asia which Irraya and Joseon were not able to stop, the rulers of the two countries decided that maintaining the fight and winning it are all parts of the status quo in the seas of South East Asia and East Asia which made the two kingdoms very paranoid in their security even if nothing really happens to the two countries that repelled the Wokou from their territories. At this point the people of Irraya are very happy with the rule of Mandaya II although there were periodical floods in the Bannag river which devastated Irraya but the people of Irraya are still happy. The people of Irraya are known to hate the attacks of Wokou who steal the aid of Irraya to Joseon so many watch towers in the northern coasts of Irraya are made to watch for the Wokou but the Wokou remained on guard wanting to get loot, there were times when the Island group of Batan and Orchid Island were attacked and controlled by Wokou but Irraya were able to regain control of that Island group and expell the Wokou from those islands but the threats and attacks from the Wokou remain, the control of the Wokou in Batan islands is known as the reign of terror of the Wokou.
In the meanwhile in the Philippines is nicely managed by the Dutch and also that the people of Irraya already felt that their land is very stuffed or overpopulated so some of them migrated to the Dutch controlled Luzon to find space to find it very sparsely populated and ready for repopulation, many people from Irraya migrated to the Dutch occupied parts of Luzon or Selurong causing the Philippines to have a more larger Muslim and Pagan minority that speaks Irrayan which is now different in culture to the people in the Dutch occupied Luzon which are majorly Christian but the Irrayans living in the Dutch occupied Luzon or Nueva Castilla don't like the Christians in the Dutch occupied Luzon or Selurong causing much riots between the two peoples in the Dutch occupied Luzon but the people of Irraya who migrated to the Dutch occupied Luzon are very aggressive in fighting the people of Dutch Occupied Luzon and because of religion, the Javanese and the other Muslims imported by the Dutch did not have conflict with the Irrayans but the Christianized people of Luzon have conflicts with the people of Selurong and for that reason the Dutch used the people of Irraya as a way to stir discord in order for them take control more of their slice of Luzon and take control of its resources. The buildings in Manila now resemble that of the dutch and german buildings and also has italian influences ... however, it was not spared of the riots of the Irrayans who try to stir discord in the colony and the Irrayans always try to vandalize church buildings as well. The Dutch did nothing because they believe that would make their rule in their colony of the Philppines much stronger the conflicts remain even up to 1730. Mindanao at this point is at peace and Sulu as well is at peace. However, Sulu is still ambitioning to get back Palawan and Sabah. However, now Sabah is now hard to get back because its people are now christian who would not want to be a part of a Muslim country, there is also a large population of Christian Chinese in Sabah as well and the people of Sabah were very loyal of the Dutch and Kalimantan is now very much connected to Sabah wherein the population of Christians in Sabah also spill over to Kalimantan due to the unification of the Philippines to the Dutch East Indies, Aceh, Irraya, Sulu and Maguindanao were currently ignored by the Dutch. Irraya is focused on defending itself from the Wokou so the conflict in the Dutch contolled Luzon is not their focus and not their aim, the real aim of Mandaya II is to help Joseon against the Wakou who are raiding their coasts and to defend themselves especially the Batan Islands from Wokou who had already occupied the Batan group of islands before which solidified the focus of Irraya against the Wokou.
