- October 17: Exercise Malabar is held in the Bengal Sea. The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG-60), the Freedom-class littoral combat ship USS Fort Worth (LCS-3), the Los Angeles-class submarine USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN-705), the diesel-electric submarine INS Sindhujar, the guided-missile destroyer INS Ranvijay, the stealth frigate INS Shivalik, the guided-missile frigate INS Betwa, the fleet tanker INS Shakti, and the Akizuki-class destroyer JS Fuyuzuki encounter a mysterious storm within their area of operations. They are never heard from again.
