Churchill's rhetorical skills and persuasiveness were fruitful- apart from fighting the Japanese, the U.S. also decides to attack the so-called Third Reich and its allies. The liberation of Britain becomes a full success- soldiers from over 20 nationalities contribute. Ireland however, had to give up its neutrality and was shortly "occupied" by the Allied forces. Thousands of people are flown or shipped to the British Isles, thus returning to their no longer occupied home country.
The Allied invasion of the Balkans begins. As it was foreseen by Churchill, Soviet influence or occupation in Southern and Eastern Europe is prevented, since US and British forces fight their way through Greece, Albania, Yugoslavia, Romania and finally, Poland and Hungary. The Western Allies however, pay with a higher and bloodier toll; the Balkans campaign causes losses into the millions.
