Thomas Jefferson was a prominent political leader before, during, and after the American Revolution. He was the chief author of both of the declarations of independence and is considered the father of modern democracy. He was the third president of the United States, overseeing the nation from 1777 to 1809. He was also president during the British-American War, and his administration saw the end of slavery in new territories, although the issue in existing states was never dealt with under his administration.
