Outbreak and Aftermath
In response to Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia, Communist China led an offensive against Vietnam via its northern border. The war dragged on many years, but Chinese forces gradually took over the entire country. Many nations outside of the conflict feared annexation and a play by China for greater World Dominance, but instead China installed a friendly Government and removed its armed forces. Cambodia, free from the attack by Vietnam, remained pro-China.
How could China install a Vietnamese Government when the Chinese army itself had suffered more than 30,000 casualties right at the border? The Soviet red army was ready at the USSR-China border and the Vietnamese army was not even engaged because they was so busy fighting in Cambodia?
