The Vicar and the Virgin is a 1985 English film and the fourth installment in the Martin Jones series, and the debut of Jim Ames in the titular role and in feature film. The film also starred Jennifer Montgomery, Peter Scott, Richard Hayes, Colleen McAdams, and Roger Mussman. In the film, Jones is contracted by a leader of the Volunteers to assassinate a rural priest suspected of attempting to defect, while Jones is asked to simultaneously protect the priest's daughter. An enormous commercial and critical success, The Vicar and the Virgin was the highest-grossing film in England in the 1980's and the second-highest worldwide gross of 1985, and helped continue the upwards trajectory of the mainstream English film industry begun with the success of 1982's Moonraker.
