The Shadow Banker of Toronto is a 1995 neo-noir science fiction film directed by Jean-Marc Maurice. The screenplay was written by Tranquilla Milano. The film stars Salma Hayek, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Keanu Reeves. Keanu Reeves plays Vincent Scott, a "shadow banker" in the domed city of Toronto on the terraformed planet of Mars.
The date is May 27, 2221. The Earth has been ravaged by an atomic war that has destroyed most parts of the globe. However, a century prior to the atomic war, a group of Canadians and Mexicans had developed an advanced interplanetary terraformer towards Mars, in order to be colonize by them. Now, a century later, Mars has become a bankocracy. A bankocracy that's also extremely focuses heavily on patriotism and national identity.
Vincent Scott (Keanu Reeves) is a "shadow banker". He's the kind of banker that's capable of "repossessing" people if they don't pay their debts on time. His boss, Troy Barker (Jean-Claude Van Damme), is a "shadow manager", who gets rid of "shadow bankers" who show concern for their "clients".
One day, a young woman name Dawn Holmes (Salma Hayek), meets Vincent Scott and changes his whole life around. With his boss now looking to "repossess" him, he'd must now not only protect his life, but protect the women his loves from this hellish bankocracy on Mars.
