The Great War that never happened is alternate history basing itself on the idea that World War 1 never happened in an alternate timeline, and all the events that led up to World War 1 failed completely and/or delayed. This idea focuses on how the Great War never happened and how the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia would be drastically different. Note that not all things on this timeline will be accurately fact is this is fictional, and a guess on how history would play out differently.
1914
- July 28th, 1914 - a Serbian assassin named Gavrilo Princip fails at killing Franz Ferdinand Archduke of Austria. IOT, Ferdinand is killed by Princip, however in this alternate timeline, Ferdinand's driver didn't make the mistake and continued to the route, or simply, Franz left prematurely due to the terrorism in Sarajevo.
Because of Princip's failure in killing Franz, World War 1 does not happen at all. Technology will be several years behind especially for aircraft. However, Ferdinand will soon become Emperor of Austria Hungary and give the Slavs equal rights. This ensures that Austria Hungary will continue to exist, and the German Reich will continue growing in terms of economy and military. Nazism and communism would not happen due to these governments not allowing it.
- Albania: this year, Albania's borders are drawn by London. William of Wied a German prince becomes monarch of Albania. The Austro-Hungarian empire is Albania's largest ally and aims to keep the principality under its sphere will ensuring Albania remains independent from Serbian and Greek aggression.
- Austria-Hungary: The empire continues it duty but now vilifying Serbian citing that they are state sponsors of terrorism. Most goods are embargoed by Germany and Austria. The failed attempt at killing Franz Ferdinand served as a warning to Austria.
- Belgium: still remains neutral since Britain ensures its neutrality.
- Bulgaria: The Bulgarian Kingdom holds resentment against Serbia due to Serbia taking Vardarska (Macedonia) from Bulgaria. Bulgaria allies with Austria-Hungary against Serbia blocking any Serbian goods to trade on the black sea.
- British Empire: still stands by its word to protect Belgium from any invaders.
- Denmark: considers selling some of its islands overseas.
- France: concerned about possible actions the German Empire could do. It stays on alert and arms its military.
- German Empire: Germany's economy and military continues to grow at an astounding rate. However Germany is concerned about its weak ally Austria Hungary due to the extreme nationalism, and the Balkans, as Germant is also concerned about a Great War forthcoming in the near future. The failed attempt at killing Ferdinand served as a warning to both the Kaiser and Austria.
- Greece: The Greeks would remains somewhar allies to Serbia. Greeks would also attempt to seize Epirus from Albania, but most likely wouldn't succeeds due to Austrian protection.
- Italy: German still remains allies with the Central Alliance.
- Netherlands: Remains neutral in the over nationalist Europe.
- Montenegro: a small Kingdom, Montenegro remains close allies with its larger cousin Serbia.
- Portugal: Portugal opposes Germany and allies itself with Britain.
- Ottoman Empire: Seen as the sick man of Europe, because of WW1 not happening at this time, the Germans never sign a treaty with the Ottoman Empire. Because of this the Ottoman Empire continues to struggle to keep with Europe. Despite this, however, Arab nationalism is delayed for the time being to due to Britain not declaring war and encouraging the Arabs to rise up against the Turks.
- Romania: Romania still holds on to its smaller land, and allied itself with Russian Empire.
- Russian Empire: The Russian Empire's army continues to grow at an astounding rate. Because of the population advantage, the Russian Empire is growing at a massive rate. Although most think Russia this time as a declining power, it is in fact a rising power. Russia's alliance with France concerns the Kaiser of Germany a bit and Russia supports Serbia.
- Serbia: the Kingdom of Serbia is largely condemned by Germany, and Austria due to their apparent sponsoring of terrorism. Only Russia remains Serbia's ally at this point as Bulgaria, Austria, and Germany hold resentment to Serbia.
- Spain: Spain remains neutral.
- Sweden: Neutral
- Norway: Neutral
- Switzerland: Neutral
- Chinese Republic: Qingtao would still be under German and Austrian command.
- United States of America: America would not be involved in European or world affairs at this year and most Americans vote against supporting European imperialist powers in a case of a global war. German would still be spoken in the United States.
1916
- Albania: nothing changes except the country begins to slightly stabilize.
- Austria-Hungary: the weak empire is spared when Franz Ferdinand comes into power in 1916. He begins giving equal rights to Slavs and makes a deal with Serbia in order to improve relations.
- Belgium: doing its thing in Africa.
- Bulgaria: Secretly aims to take Constantinople from the Ottomans. However, it is unsure of this yet.
- British Empire: continues to grow. Fights off a few rebellions in its colonies. Breaks ties with France in favor of Russia.
- France: becomes rivals with Britain.
- German Empire: economy continues to grow alongside its military.
- Greece: remains rather friendly to Germany as the Greek king's wife is German.
- Italy: nothing happens much this year.
- Montenegro: nothing happens much either.
- Portugal: Colonial stuff.
- Ottoman Empire: Although weak still, Arab nationalism is slowly growing specifically in Mecca.
- Jabal Shamaar Emirate: is at war against the rival House of Saud. The Ottomans support Javal Shmaar, but only via weapons and not manpower.
- Russian Empire: although a rising power, the Tsar's reputation continues ro worsen with the Russian people. Various nationalist movements (even communist although weak and small) call for a democratic government and/or the Tsar to reign as a constitutional monarch.
- Romania: Romania attempts to establish closer ties with Austria-Hungary.
- Serbia: wants Bosnia to be independent of Austro-Hungarian control as a request to re-establisb formal relations.
- Spain: Nothing happens really except usual colonial business.
- Chinese Republic: revolts in Mongolia alarm the Chinese. The Russians support the Mongols and they successfully declare their independence from China.
- United States of America: America continues its isolationist policy. However, it's keen on keeping its overseas possessions in check.
