The Fall and Rise of Empires
Following the initial invasion of Egypt by Israeli, British, and French forces, the United States and USSR were furious and demanded their withdraw from Egyptian soil. The Soviets even threatened to intervene on behalf of Egypt, but when the 3 Allies announced their refusal, Khrushchev backed down, stating in an interview years later that “Egypt wasn’t worth the end of humanity”, and so the war continued. The war ended in a final battle between a joint Anglo-Israeli force and a few Egyptian brigades outside of Cairo. The Egyptian capital was soon occupied by Allied troops, the Egyptian Government surrenders the next day, ending Egypt’s existence as a nation, and the renewal of its days as a colony.
