Texan forces in northern Chihuahua

The 2002 Texan Incursion into Mexico was the armed campaign by the Republic of Texas to stop illegal immigration from Mexico. Texan President George W. Bush authorized the incursion after repeated refusals by Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo to take action to end illegal immigration

The Texan force moved into the Mexican State of Coahuila, occupying several small towns in the north of the state, eventually consolidating control over the entire municipality of Acuña. Texan forces succeeded in repelling Mexican military assaults, after which Zedillo offered to "Take more stringent measures against illegal emigrants."

International opinion on the incident varied. Confederate President Gary Bauer supported Bush, while the Soviet Union under Gennady Yanayev condemned the measure, calling it a "grave impediment on Mexican sovereignty."
