Talk:War of the Pacific (See Paris and Die)

It proved to be impossible to keep the plan secret from the Japanese and they were able to improve their defenses on Kyushu. - Not only that, but that was the only logical invasion site.

Anyways, interesting ideas. With the Kumazawa claimant on the throne, it opens up interesting possibilities for post-war struggles, as the old line attempts to reassert itself.  :-) - Nik 05:24, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

To complicate things, Kumazawa would widely be considered to be a puppet of the US. --AirshipArmada 05:41, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Yes, indeed.  :-) That's a large part of the reason why in OTL, the occupation forces declared that they had no jurisdiction in the dispute.  :-)
The Kumazawa family had, among other things, demanded a return to the 1392 agreement wherein the two branches of the Imperial Family would alternate the throne, each Emperor reigning 10 years before abdicating. America might have trouble maintaining their puppet after 1954 for that reason.
It's an interesting question. Would Hiromichi have honored the 10-year clause? And would America still exert enough influence on Japan itself to prevent him from doing so if he chose? Would we care, for that matter? The agreement did not imply that the previous Emperor would return to the throne. Instead, another close relative, a brother or son (probably brother in this case, as Hirohito's eldest son was only 21 in 1954), would take the throne. - Nik 07:11, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

Why would Hirohito resign? Japan was pwned a year later OTL, and he stayed on the throne nonetheless OTL. Where would he get an idea in his noggin to resign? 204.52.215.107 03:26, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
