270 electoral votes[]

This one line in the article, stating that Kucinich will be the last president to get over 270 electoral votes, is either wrong or insignificant. If all those states did seceed, then one of the following two things would happen:

  1. The 107 electoral votes would be redistricted and given to the other states
  2. The 107 would be lost, but the number needed to win would be lowered to 216

The number 270 isn't specifically important, it is just the current number needed to have a majority. If Puerto Rico joined the US tomorrow, the number would just raise up 1, not stay the same. LurkerLordB 23:51, April 24, 2011 (UTC)

The Electoral Vote is assigned with one per senator, and one per congressman, that a state has. It would be lowered with these states seceding, thus making it that 270 is no longer the required number to win, and that no one else can get that much because of the overall drop.

And, if PR became a state - it is already part of the USA - it would be at least 3 Electoral Votes, more likely 4-5.

I guess LurkerLordB is right, the number 270 is pretty much null since the secessions of 1986. I'll remove it from the article. MAINEiac4434 01:26, April 26, 2011 (UTC)
