just a small note: the transylvanian connection of Dracula only came about due to Bram Stoker's book. He was actualy the voivoid of wallachia.--Marcpasquin 13:28, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Any suggestions as to a different name?
Operation Micheal the brave (after the romanian prince who briefly ruled transylvania in the 1599) or operation Carpathian Freedom. --Marcpasquin 15:01, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Comments

Great alternative history - I am especially interested in minor nations like these. Though I would like to comment it:

1) Unless I have missed something in your timeline, as Hungary was not a republic before or during the real-time WW2, but a monarchy (with the title of king vacant, and with Miklos as regent, I believe that should be corrected. The correct name should thus be Magyar Királyság. And the flag in use in Hungary as a monarchy would thus be this one:

2) Why would Hungary use Soviet uniforms (concerning image of Hungarian troops)? Despite neglects in the military, they would continue using late-WW2 pattern uniforms - and thus still be using Stahlhelms.

3) What about Hungarian tanks such as 40 M Turan I, 41M Turan II and self-propelled guns such as 43M Zrinyi? The Hungarians were planning in 1944 (in the historical WW2) to develop a tank similar to the Panther, named the 44M Tas. The planned armour was to be between 20 to 120 mm, and armed with 88 mm KwK 43 gun. A modernised Zrinyi with a German 75 mm tank gun was also planned. Hungary also received several Panthers and Tigers. About small arms, most were bolt-action rifles, but they were also developing their own unique submachinegun called the 39M and the modernised 43M.

4) Hungary was not a country who was likely not to focus on military expansion. On the contrary, Hungary was the axis nation behind Germany and Italy who most focused on rearmament. But that might change, just a thought.

4) Not of any real importance, but is the design of the Romanian flag yours? It looks in my eyes like the flag of the Communist Romania.

Nevertheless, great job. Keep it up, and if I could be of any use (for example by expanding it), feel free to contact me.

Danke for the comments. I am trying to do the battle and war pages in this timeline in a similar way to the Fall Grün Timeline. the Transylvanian War is an analogue for OTL Korean war (without the crazy MASH) all the pictures have been taken from various WWII Web sites and I apologise for any problems, as good pictures are suprizingly hard to find. the flags were taken off a WWII website, i do not know of their validity. all the battles have been Wargamed by me and some other blokes at the Uni history section, and should be accurate. any expansion done especially to my other pages, like Operation Shiden (Heute Europa) and Operation Otsu (Heute Europa) info and pics of Japanese troops in temperate countries are very hard to track down)

As said, if my help could be of any use, contact me. If any of the images/flags I have in the Fall Grün Althist are useful, feel free to use them. I know how hard it is at times to find good images for fictive use - especially of the Luftwaffe, which used different markings in 1938 and 1939-45. But I already knew that Nimrod photo - I just love it. I could for instance find some images of the Hungarian Army, as they are quite rare, and for images of Romanian army in a late war setting, these might come in handy. http://www.worldwar2.ro/media/?article=367. I was planning a similar storyline, based on German lessions from the Fall Grün scenario, but now it would mysteriously a lot like this one, wouldn't it? If it is not a big problem, I have "cleaned up" the infobox a bit, but I have left the facts unchanged. Also I added the phrase "Status quo ante bellum" as an alternative to draw - sounds better in this situation to. Realismadder 05:57, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I have no Idea how you get this stuff, but i have to thank you. those pictures of the aircraft are amazing.

Das Taub

No problem. The aircraft I made myself (as Romania and Hungary never received them in OTL). I have used a couple of years now on finding pictures of the Hungarian Army. I have also corrected some info (for example correct names for both airforces and a couple of equipment changed - some aircrafts which was not accepted even by the Germans). Would the Slovacs send 'Volunteer' units, much like spain did in WWII (the Blue Division)? Das Taub 06:29, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Well, not sure about volunteer units, but I will assume that the war between Romania and Hungary would result in a resparkle in tensions between Slovakia and Hungary, perhaps some border clashes. Reason:
Following the historical Munich Agreement on September 30, 1938 (in which Czechoslovakia was forced to cede the Sudetenland to Germany), Czechoslovakia was also forced to cede 11,925 km² with 869,299 inhabitants (86.5% of them ethnic Hungarians) of southeastern lands of Slovakia and Ruthenia to Hungary. Not only did this transfer the homes of about 590,000 Hungarians to Hungary, but 290,000 Slovaks and 37,000 Rusyns as well. In addition, it cost Slovakia its second biggest city, Košice, and left the capital, Bratislava, very vulnerable to further Hungarian pressure. On March 16, 1939 Hungary invaded and annexed Carpatho-Ukraine (Ruthenia) and between March 23 and March 26, Hungary fought a short war with Slovakia, in which Slovakia was forced to cede 1,697 km², 69,930 inhabitants to Hungary.
For example, there could occur a incident in which Romanian bombers, suddenly flying into thick clouds, could mistake Bratislava for Budapest, and thus dropping their bombs on the Slovak capital instead of the Hungarian. As Hungary is, like Romania, equipped with German aircraft, the Slovaks would thus believe they were Hungarian bombers, and then fight a short border war until the facts of the incident came to light in both Bucuresti, Budapest and Bratislava. You could also take a look here: Batarci incident (Fall Grün), Miskolc attack (Fall Grün) (despite the last one was staged, but could give some inspiration nontheless). -- Realismadder 09:33, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
