Talk:Richard Nixon (World War III-1956)

From Alternative History

1. How does Nixon serve 11 years as President? The 25th Amendment would allow him to serve only one extra term, as he served more than half of Eisenhower's second term. 2. How does Nixon live 5 years longer than in OTL. In OTL, Nixon died in 1994 of a stroke - perhaps doctors managed to save him in this Althist? Just some things to think about... [edit] Willing to be proven wrong, but...

I think under the 25th, if the President dies, but has served MORE than two years of his term, the Vice-President IS eligible to run for two terms as well.

Eisenhower in this TL dies AFTER January 20th, which would mean he had held office for two years and a number of days before Nixon takes over. (Re-inaugurated on January 20, 1954).

Not a Constitutional scholar, so willing to be proven wrong.

Also...after all...it's still the same Nixon!

I believe that no person may be president for more than 10 years, so that would fit. Someone go read the constitution. :) Louisiannan 04:45, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Another POD, perhaps the Provisional US Congress in Denver allows Nixon to run for a second term in 1964 under some "Emergency Powers Act", also approved by the Provisional US Supreme Court. My main point was that Nixon, in this TL, is just as power-hungry as in OTL and pulls it off, but doesn't declare himself President-for-Life as in other ATLs.

His longer life I granted due to the fact that he left office without the "stain" of Watergate and with some popularity.
