Talk:Republic of Texas (USNE)
From Alternative History
So, Texas never joined the United States in this timeline? - Nik 03:04, 6 May 2005 (UTC)
No. I suppose that it was populated by white settlers at one time, and they wanted independence from Mexico. The less-than-together USA would not have been appealing to them. It think they would have just stayed independent and worry about their own affairs.- Prwitch1 (Brian)
- In that case, Texas would likely be much smaller than you have it on your map. When Mexico granted Texas independance, the border was much smaller. Though Texas laid claim to territory out to the Rio Grande, this was not recognized by Mexico. That territorial dispute lead to the Mexican-American War in our timeline. America being much stronger than Mexico, Mexico was forced to accept Texas' claim. I doubt an independant Texas would've been strong enough to enforce their claim. See this link for what was granted Texas and what Texas claimed. - Nik 16:14, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
