Talk:Reoccupied France
From Alternative History
I know they're "alt histories", but...how likely would this have been???
- The Teheran discussion between the US and the USSR about the occupation of France is historical *here*, the point of departure of this timeline is that the British did not (unlike *here*) manage to convince their allies to change their mind. Occupation scrips (to replace the franc) had already been printed but were never used due to De Gaulle quickly gaining control of the country. --Marcpasquin 00:35, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- If De Gaulle was killed before the Teheran Conference (which is fairly likely), this might have worked. I look forward to seeing how this develops. --Sikulu 10:02, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Interesting. Hmm...I'm not sure what is worse for the U.S., having a war in Vietnam, or having a war in Algeria. Of course, the U.S. has long been seen as a villain in Islamic nations, but I dare say the negativity we see now might have started earlier. Then again, "nation building" in Iraq might have never occurred, because a fight in Algeria (if it happened) would have been one expressly against the liberation of a nation, so it would be hard to justify making war for the liberation of a nation later on (although the main reason was supposedly WMDs). --Riction 02:22, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
- I feel it more likely that either Morocco becomes independent and Algeria is occupied (since it is technically a part of France at the time), or both become independent. Naturally, Indochina is going to have problems of its own. --Sikulu 10:02, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- If feel that in the context of the Cold War, both the UK and the US would favour an authoritarian regime in power to prevent any pro-soviet government. --Marcpasquin 14:39, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not exactly sure how pro-Communist Ho Chi Minn was (was it just opportunism?). Perhaps he could be the leader of a Indochinese Nationalist Party? --Sikulu 13:46, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ho Chi Minh went to Stalin after the US rebuffed him. He had come to the US asking for help in liberating Indochina from France, and we said no. So he went to Stalin who gladly obliged, hence the first war against France by the Viet Minh, and the second against France and us by the Viet Cong. Louisiannan 21:51, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- It should be noted however that ho chi minh was one of the founder of the communist party of France so even if the US had chosen to recognise his plight, its doubtfull it would have changed his political leaning.
- In my opinion, its more plausible that the Allied would have recognised an independent indochina under a monarchy considering a monarch was already in place (although with very limited power) --Marcpasquin 06:09, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
It says Madagascar is given to Britain and America at the same time.--TEAKAY 16:09, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- That should have read morocco, oups.--Marcpasquin 06:09, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
