Talk:New Wessex 776
From Alternative History
Somebody else should probably handle the post-1492 European reaction to the "discovery" of the New World and New Wessex.
[edit] No Sails
According to McEvedy's atlas, the boats of the volkswanderung eras were rowed -- no sails. You're going to have to do something about that, I suspect.
- Suggestions?Theophilus
- Maybe the Saxons had a ship or three crewed by foreigners - who were all killed the first year of settlement?
- Which set of foreigners would be appropriate? -Theophilus54
Perhaps the the POD for this TL is not the flight, but the invention of the sail by a local genius, who brought the technology to the New World. Does this make senseTheophilus54 00:42, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Hello again Theophilus54
You mention the Plague. Is there also a way to introduce smallpox so that New Worlders have some resistance by the 15th century? Also, you mention the introduction of the horse; I assume the wheel is also introduced. What about more advanced technology: armor, gunpowder, etc? Good TL ~AirshipArmada
- I'll have to check when and where smallpox entered to European population. As for technology, I would like to limit it to that which the eighth-century West Saxons had. Any mention of specific resources would be terrific.
&&&&&&&&&&&& In OTL the Haudenausee adopted sedentary agriculture around 1100; this is after the arrival of the New West Saxons. Possibly the proto-Haudenausee took to the road after the introduction of the wheel?
