CNN on Doomsday?[]

So, in my random internet searches, I was on the Wikipedia article for CNN, it said that Ted Turner, on the day that he launched the news network on June 1, 1980, said that "We won't be signing off until the world ends. We'll be on, and we will cover the end of the world, live, and that will be our last event... and when the end of the world comes, we'll play 'Nearer, My God, to Thee' before we sign off."

So, just over three years later the world, basically, ends. I was wondering why a CNN article hadn't been started yet, as I can envision a 24-Hour News Hour cable network covering the end of the world, then in the last moments playing the haunting strains of "Nearer, My God, To Thee," before the Emergency Broadcast Service's warning takes over.

I've been trying to do research about it, but, as of this moment the amount of information (such as programs being aired, who was in the studio at the time, etc.) on the internet is zilch. I can't even seem to be able to find a CNN "Breaking News" slide from 1983.

I would be more than happy to try to work on an article like this, but I have no idea where to start, who is involved and all that. If anyone could give me help, that would be great!

Well, that boast on his part is just that. There's no real way that they could predict when the bomb(s) would fall on their heads, y'know?

As for the rest, go ahead, but I've no idea where you would start.

This would be a great site for it, but all the links seem to be broken. YouTube has some old CNN videos, which I can find by searching "CNN 1983" and so forth. Fair warning: without the dizzying mess of graphics, and with what seem to be long, thoughtful interviews, the channel is almost unrecognizable. Benkarnell 04:37, December 13, 2011 (UTC)
