From Alternative History
According to Special:Longpages (click on 500) there are 232 pages at this time. --Chlewey 17:59, 14 Feb 2005 (GMT)
- I think, as with the IBWiki, some of the shorter pages do count, because they're all the information. Louisiannan

[edit] Nice Redesign
Nice redesign, Chlewey! - Nik 21:04, 25 Mar 2005 (EST)
[edit] OK to change article count on main page?
I replaced "We have 400 articles" with "We have ((NUMBEROFARTICLES))" (I made it with parentheses so it wouldn't show up as a number here), and I thought having it be NUMBEROFARTICLES would make the "We have X articles" statement more accurate. It says with the NUMBEROFARTICLES template, "We have 386 articles". Is that accurate? I'm new, and I hope I didn't mess something up, even with being a veteran on Wikipedia. WhatIf 19:48, 13 Apr 2005 (CDT)
- Not a problem at all. I'm just surprised it worked. I tried that before, and it gave "-1" :-) I guess whatever the glitch was has been fixed. Welcome to the wiki! Nik 00:03, 14 Apr 2005 (EDT)
- Thanks for welcoming me! :-) I hope to make an alternate history soon, maybe something like "What if we had won the Vietnam War, hands down?" WhatIf 17:46, 14 Apr 2005 (CDT)
[edit] Problem Uploading Picture
For my Vietnam Victory alternate history, I'm trying to upload a picture of the old North Vietnamese flag. I tried putting in Image:100-px-Flag_of_North_Vietnam.gif, and making a page for it, and putting brackets in, but it told me there was a missing image. I tried to get it from here. I guess my question is, how do you upload an image? I would just like instructions and not someone else doing the link. WhatIf 19:47, 14 Apr 2005 (CDT)
- You need to save the file to your own computer, then go to Special:Upload and browse to the place you saved it and then upload it here. Angela 05:10, 15 Apr 2005 (EDT)
- OK, now it puts a caption at the bottom, that says Image, then the pixel rate, and then something else. Check out North Vietnam (Vietnam Victory) and look at the flag to see what I mean. WhatIf 20:06, 15 Apr 2005 (CDT)
- This is because the template NationInfoBi used on that page already includes the image syntax, so you just need the file name, not the other syntax on the page itself. This should be fixed now. Angela 15:05, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] 400 Articles!
Congratulations, everyone, for reaching 400 articles! :-) --WhatIf 3:17, 17 Apr 2005 (CDT)
[edit] Future timelines
Some questions: would a history that branched off in the past but continued along past the present (ours) fall under the scope of this wiki? and what about one that started at the present (ours) rather than at a particular turning point? Thank you, Djinn 03:07, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
- One that started in the present would not be in the scope of this wiki. One that started in the past and continued to the future ... I'm not sure. I would tentatively say "no", but I'll wait till I hear other views. - Nik 05:43, 7 May 2005 (UTC) (Founder and one of the admins)
- While some people might like both in the same way some people who like sci-fi also like heroic-fantasy, they tend to be based on different approach to creating them. Alt-history is about showing what could have been, futurism is about showing what could be.
- Because of this, they tend to be judge by a different set of criterias: plausibility in Alt-history is usualy a question of wheter a given person acted in acordance what what we know of him or her (or as Carlos put it, the lack of mind-control by alien space bats) in the situation decribed while in futuristic timelines, known persons are rarely presented (and if yes, usualy not in a primary role). While technology is an important part of futurism, alt-history usualy only present it as part of alternate trends resulting from the POD (lower technological level or survival of a science that was abandonned *here*). Prequisite knowledge (or at least, area or interest) to appreciate and contribute tend similarly to be different: social sciences for alt-history, pure science for futurism.
- So basicaly I don't think that both should be put *here* although a future timeline resulting from a POD in the past is obviously a grey area.--Marcpasquin 15:57, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comments. What would be a good title for a wiki on future timelines (future: is already used for another Wikicity). Maybe futuretimelines.wikicities.com? Angela (talk) 00:06, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
- how about "Worlds of Tomorrow" ?--Marcpasquin 01:21, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, the Future wiki was recommended to me, and that's how it seemed to me. -- Djinn 04:56, 10 May 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah, I like that one too. -- Djinn 04:56, 10 May 2005 (UTC)
- Just fill in a wiki request form when you decide which name the wiki should have. Angela (talk) 02:14, 22 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Althistory in Serbian
Hello, I would like to start Althistory in Serbian. Some time in the future, I would maybe translate my writings in English, but it would not be soon. As I didn't make your Main Page, I would ask you to make some space for "althistory in other languages". I like idea to be at the same wiki as other language communities. --millosh (talk) 19:09, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- Can we split this wiki into en.althistory.wikicities.com and sr.althistory.wikicities.com, as has been done with the anime wikicity? - Nik 18:36, 12 May 2005 (UTC)
I was thinking about that and I am not against that idea, but I think that our community is too small for splitting. However, it is good idea to have separate wikis because of the future of our work. --millosh (talk) 19:27, 12 May 2005 (UTC)
- There's a few options:
- Move this to en.althistory and have a separate sr.althistory (cpp: does this)
- Have all languages on one wiki (rpg: does this)
- Have the English althistory at althistory and the Serbian althistory at whatever "althistory" is in Serbian (trains:/Eisenbahn: do this).
- Angela (talk) 02:14, 22 May 2005 (UTC)
Maybe name "pseudoistorija.wikicities.com" would be good solution. As Bosniaks and Croats may use "pseudohistorija" or "pseudopovijest", there would not be potential problems in naming. Hmmm... But, it is good idea to have "sr.althistory" as alias for "pseudoristorija" (but, also, "en.pseudoistorija" for "alsthistory" :) ). Maybe it is good idea that "www.althistory" and "www.pseudoistorija" become portal with the same content (such "www.wikipedia.org" is for Wikipedia). --millosh (talk) 14:24, 28 May 2005 (UTC)I am asking for new Wikicity --millosh (talk) 18:31, 30 May 2005 (UTC)
Please, don't delete anything before I transfer it to another Wikicity. I'll mark everything for deletion when it would be done. Thanks and sorry for mass. --millosh (talk) 18:34, 30 May 2005 (UTC)
- I marked for deletion all of my pages because I moved it to sr.hoh.wikicities.com. I'll remove my "althistory" from the list and if you find any of my articles which I didn't mark for deletion, please tell me that at my talk page. --millosh (talk) 06:56, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I think that Serbian translation can stay here. Maybe you would have some Serbian contributor in the future :) --millosh (talk) 06:58, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Possibility_vs_plausibility
where should I link this to ? Possibility_vs_plausibility--Marcpasquin 01:05, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Maybe on the Terminology page. Or maybe the pages Alternative History:About or Alternative History:Community Portal should be turned into something other than what they now are. --AirshipArmada 03:24, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Despamming
