[edit] Westernization

Nik, with that change would there be different Japanese Daughter langs? Like in North America and Australia? or would there be less divergence than that?

Probably not. Spanish, English, French, etc., haven't produced daughter languages *here*, after all. With the exception, of course, of creoles, and Japanese-lexified creoles would probably exist too. There would likely be distinct dialects, of course. I'm playing around with the idea that the American dialects might've undergone a change of /S/ -> /x/ (-> /h/) just as Spanish did (which would lead to an interesting /s ~ x/ alternation in verbal inflections) - Nik 15:51, 1 Apr 2005 (EST)
