This is a neat POD. I have one issue with the flag: the red saltire was not used as a symbol for Ireland before its incorporation in the Union Jack in the early 19th Century, and then it was only chosen to match the other crosses on the flag. Maybe the British flagmakers had a similar thought in 1744, but they might instead have used a more genuine symbol for Ireland. Benkarnell 14:08, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

I admit I fudged the dates a bit but I thought it look better that way. For the sake of this althist, I'll go with the The 'Duke of Leinster' theory for the origin of the flag.--Marcpasquin 18:59, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
